Tom Sayers Obituary

Tom Sayers

August 7, 2024

Tom Sayers, age 77, of Sagamore Hills, OH passed away August 7, 2024.
Born in Salt Lake City, UT, Tom grew up in Cleveland Heights, OH. He served in the Army and was a Viet Nam veteran.
He married Kathleen (Kate) McGee in 1971. They moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 1976, returning to NE Ohio in 2018.
Tom was an Automotive Service Excellence Certified Master Mechanic. For thirty years he took excellent care of customers at the Skyway Service station he owned with his partner Tim Caruso. After Skyway Service closed, Tom worked for the State of Colorado, auditing facilities that did vehicle emissions tests.
Once retired, Tom volunteered at the Western Museum of Mining and Industry, encouraging kids to yell "Eureka!" whenever they found anything while gold panning.
Tom was an avid runner and spent countless hours with friends running everything from easy routes around town to Pikes Peak Ascents and Marathons, doing crazy experiments, leading wild adventures, and convincing others that "no trespassing" did not apply to them.
Tom enjoyed higher math, science, museums, machines, the outdoors, and helping people. But he was happiest being with his sons Jack and Ryan. His love, support, and encouragement for them was unmatched. He led them on countless adventures involving camping, hiking, and mountain biking. He was there for all their sports and academic events. He nurtured their love of learning, and many an hour was spent at the kitchen counter working advanced math and physics calculations with them.
Tom is survived by his wife Kate, his son Dr. Jack Sayers (Lindsey), sisters-in-law Patricia Geschke (Raymond), Mary Piskura (Charles), and Marcella McGee, sisters Ann and Lynn, and several nieces and nephews.
Tom was predeceased by his beloved son Ryan, brother William, brothers-in-law Michael McGee (Gayle McCormack) and Terrence McGee (Sharon), nephew Kevin Piskura, and his parents Dr. George Sayers and Marion Sayers.

I am so saddened by Tom's passing. I got to know and kid around withTom through the downtown YMCA in Colorado Springs where he was a regular early morning guy. His sense of humor was delightful and we enjoyed giving each other a hard time about whatever was on our minds that day. Tom was smart and funny and looked at some of the crazy things in our culture with humor and acceptance that it was the way it was. Losing Ryan was so devastating yet he did not lose his mind and interest in the life of his friends. May his reunion with Ryan be all joy, tears and laughter!
