Vera Schaefer Obituary

Vera Lockett Schaefer, 82, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1952, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2011. She was born June 16, 1928 in Pratt, Kansas to Lemuel V. Lockett and Vera Emily Harris Lockett. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jack Schaefer, and four children: Jean Anne Schaefer, Jill Schaefer, John and Lisa Schaefer, and Kathy Schaefer. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was a graduate of Pratt, Kansas High School in 1946 and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of University of Colorado Colorado Springs with a MA in Education. She was a volunteer for the Colorado Springs Police Department Senior Victim Assistance Team and a lifelong member of East United Methodist Church. She enjoyed swimming and sunbathing, sewing, reading and study groups, travel, and she was an avid Nuggets basketball fan. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 19,2011 at East United Methodist Church, 1505 East Monument Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the East United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in memory of Vera Lockett Schaefer.
