Verna Ebbert Obituary

Ebbert
Verna Idell Stewart
August 1, 1927
December 5, 2024

Verna Idell Stewart Ebbert, born on August 1, 1927, in Hattiesburg, MS, passed away on December 5, 2024. She was the beloved daughter of Marvin Golden and Dona Maude Stewart and proud sister to G. Marvin Stewart.
Verna's early career began as a teenager at the Blue Ribbon Bakery in Hattiesburg. She was a proud graduate of Hattiesburg High School, Class of 1945 and Southern Mississippi, Class of 1949, where she earned her degree in Art and French. She got her teaching certificate in 1963 and taught in Colorado Springs, District 11 for 10 years. She continued her career in the Jordan School District in Sandy, Utah until 1996. Verna taught first graders on both sides of the Rocky Mountains to truly enjoy reading. While spending time in Utah, she was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Salt Lake City, and particularly enjoyed spending time at Willow Creek Country Club. When she moved back to Hattiesburg, MS, she loved being a member of the Dixie Methodist Church, PEO, South Mississippi Art Association and the Hattiesburg Morning Garden Club.
In 1950, she married her lifelong love, Clarence "Bud" Ebbert, and together they built a beautiful family. But what made their family special from the start, was the true love and companionship that Bud and Verna had for each other. Verna was a proud mother to three children: Marvin D. Ebbert (Jean), Eddie C. Ebbert, and G. Jean Vaughn (Robert). If anybody was lucky enough to see Verna with her kids, they were able to physically see love, kindness, patience, and dedication in true form. She was a cherished grandmother to four grandchildren: Anne Ebbert, Amy Langness (Phillip), Emilee Glenn (Michael), and David Vaughn (Sarah). Verna's legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Zoie, Zayden, William, Elizabeth, Christian, Gianna, Gabriella, Charlotte, Olivia, and Adam. But, for anybody who had a chance to know Verna, you were lucky enough to call yourself a part of her family. She knew no stranger, her love knew no bounds, her generosity knew no limit, and her compassion knew no ending. She lived a life of embracing neighbors as her own.
Verna is preceded in death and met with open arms by her parents, brother, husband, and son. Her family sends her off with a $2 bill for a life beautifully lived.
Visitation will be held on December 9, 2024, from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm at the Hulett Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg, MS. Services will follow at 2:00 with internment at Highland Cemetery after the service.
