VERNON FINCH Obituary

FINCH
VERNON D. FINCH
April 8, 1936 November 2, 2018
Vern was born to Everett and Jewell Finch in Cedar Rapids, IA where he grew up, making life long friends, playing football, and meeting his high school sweetheart, Carol (Karns) Finch. Vern was commissioned into the U.S. Army in 1959 and honorably served 20 years in the Corps of Engineers. After serving in both Korea and Vietnam the decorated veteran, including the Bronze Star, Air Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service with Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal and Senior Parachutist Badge, made Colorado Springs home where he continued to serve his community and enjoy his family and hobbies of racquetball, golf and fishing. Community service, in part, included long time volunteer to the Stonegate Terrace HOA and Director Emeritus of Ent Credit Union.
Vern was a family man preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol, their three children Christi Gustad, Gregory Finch (Christine), and Denise Wakelyn and grandchildren Kimberly Sturch, Megan Bower (Aaron), Bradley Sturch, Douglas Wakelyn, and Sean Gustad. Vern's great grandchildren Dillon and Cameron Bower and Aspen Sturch always put a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.
A private family ceremony with full military honors will be held at Pikes Peak National Cemetery on November 13th, 2018.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Vern's military service be honored with donations in his name to:

Vern (or Dean, as Carol always called her man) always held a special place in my heart. He was so generous, a loving, family man with a great sense of humor.
To Christi, Greg and Denise and of course, Carol, and to all the extended BIG family - my heart cries for you ... love
