Vic Dunlop Obituary

GLENDALE, Calif. (AP) - "Make Me Laugh" comic Vic Dunlop has died in California of diabetes complications at 62.

His wife, Linda Dunlop, tells the Los Angeles Times that the comedian died Saturday at Glendale Adventist Medical Center near Los Angeles.

The irreverent comic joked about his weight, Catholic school upbringing and Army life. He gained national attention on television's "Make Me Laugh."

Dunlop was a regular on Richard Pryor's 1977 comedy-variety show and he appeared on the 1980s comedy "Harper Valley P.T.A." He starred in the 1993 comedy "Breakfast of Aliens" and had roles in the movies "Skatetown U.S.A.," "The Devil and Max Devlin," "Meatballs Part II," "Night Patrol" and "Martians Go Home."

I saw him at Harvey´s comedy club in Portland in the early 90s. He told a great joke about his daughter asking for a Barbie, then Barbie needed clothes, a house, a car. "What Barbie needs is a job!"
I have a big laugh and as he greeted us after the show he held my hand, saying he loved my laugh. He said full hearted laughter was why he worked the clubs. So funny and so kind. One of my favorite memories and I will never forget the Barbie joke

When Vic would come to Austin,TX, he would always call me for a massage. He was the most polite and gentlemanly client I ever had. He was not just a massage client ,but a good friend. The other day I came across a beautiful postcard he'd sent me just to say hi and to tell me he was coming this way soon. Austin has changed much and is not as friendly, but I am so grateful to have such a beautiful memory of a beautiful person in the beautiful time that it was. He is greatly missed ,but I am comforted to know he is in God's hands and will see him again. With warmest regards to his family, Candy Clifton

We used to go see Vic at the Cleveland Comedy Club every time he was in town. What a big hearted man. We became friends and we would go to the before and after parties by his invite. We always think of Vic and will deeply miss him! RIP Brother with much love.

My husband and I met Vic when he came to Funny Bones in Springfield, IL. that was well over 10 years ago. What a wonderful man we never missed any of his shows as he became our favorite comedian. We are very saddened to learn of his death, as I was going on line to find out when he was coming back to see us, that's when I seen that he passed, it was as if we lost our friend, such a wonderful friend we lost. Our hearts go out to his family, he will forever be in our hearts. A. Nunes

From the day I saw Vic performing at UCLA I knew he was a very funny man. As I got to know him Vic was also a caring and generous man too. Vic made all our live more fun and his laugh was infectious. I asked him to join our comedy group the L.A. Connection in 1977, and those were 3 of the great years our group had. We became good friends, won awards, built a fan base and started something special. Vic was a pillar in the success of the early days of L.A. Connection and he will always have a wonderful place in LAC history. But more importantly, Vic will always have a special place in my heart. My prayers and thought are with all his family. You will be missed.
