Victor Lee Obituary

Born to Sylvia Brown Lee and Arthur Lee in Valley Falls, KS. When he was very young, Victor's mother contracted TB and several family members in and around Topeka raised him. Following his mother's death in 1928, his father married G. Zenobia Korn, in 1934. They had two children, Zonda (Charles) Morgan, and Larry Lee. Victor graduated from Highland Park High School in 1937. He married Betty Green in 1941, just before enlisting in the Army Air Corps, serving as a Sergeant in the 304th Fighter Squadron. After WWII, he became a Firefighter, working in Sunflower, KS. In 1955, he was among the first employees hired at the new Air Force Academy. He served on the AFA Fire Department for over 25 years, eventually being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant before retiring in 1978, following 29 years of faithful government service. Victor was married to Betty Green Lee for over 24 years before they divorced in 1966. They had four children: Michael Lee, of Berlin, Germany; Lola (Ernest) West of Pueblo; Ronald (Michele) Lee, of Colorado Springs; and William Lee, also of Colorado Springs. While working at the Palmer House, Victor met Anne Elizabeth Castro (d. 1995) and they married on April 16, 1980. Victor's family with Anne included: Elizabeth (Phillip) Esquibel, of Montrose; Denise Castro, of Colorado Springs; and Roy Castro, of Denver. Victor had a passion for railroad history, particularly the Colorado narrow gauge lines. He collected books on the subject and had an impressive model train collection. Victor was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. All who knew him loved him and he will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 10, at 4:00 p.m., at Calvary United Methodist Church, 4210 Austin Bluffs Parkway.

One of my earliest memories of Mr. Lee was when he gave us all (the neighborhood kids) Tootsie Rolls one morning at the Holy Apostle Church parking lot when it was located at the corner of Carefree and Pictureque. I didn't eat it right away and brought it home. When my father found the Tootise Roll stuck to the living room curtains he had to ask me where I got it from. I told him that I got it from "the Church parking lot". My father was a little angry with me because this ment that I crossed "the street" (Carefree) without an adult. But I told him that Mr Lee was there, and everything was okay. I didn't even get in trouble for sticking the Tootsie Roll to the curtains. So, Thank You Mr. Lee

I grew up with Liz and Denise Castro so I did have a chance to get to know Mr Lee pretty well. I know he will be missed by his family and my dad (Ray Barta), myself and my family send our deepest sympathies to everyone.
