Phil Mayo, 62, of Bingham Road, South Mills, NC died Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center. Phil was born in Chillicothe, Ohio, July 26, 1955 to Sarah Ann Roberts Mayo and the late Paul N. Mayo and was the husband of Cynthia Hunt Mayo of the residence. He was a welding supplies branch manager and was dedicated to his work at ARC 3 Gases, formally Machine and Welding Supply Company in Elizabeth City, NC. He was an avid golfer, loved sports and especially loved working with kids as an coach, umpire and referee for football, baseball and wrestling.
In addition to his mother and wife, Cynthia, he is survived by his daughter, Angie Mayo Simonds of South Mills; his son, Nick Mayo and wife Karen of Chesapeake, VA; four grandchildren, Larsen, Kaylyn, Kylee and Hunter; and a brother, Randy Mayo and wife Bonnie of Clayton, NC. He was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Mayo.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2017, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tighe Chalk Memorial Scholarship Fund, 125 Petunia Road, Maple, NC 27956. Twiford Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City is assisting the Mayo family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at www.TwifordFH.com

So sorry to hear the sad news about Phil. We are his Mississippi cousins. He brought his mom down awhile back and we got to spend some time with him. I don't think I ever saw him during that time that he wasn't smiling. We grew up together when they lived in Iuka , Ms.

One of the Most coolest teachers/ coaches I have ever met!!! I went thru a lot my senior year and this man noticed! He helped save some of my offers an I was able to receive a full 4yr scholarship even after I had graduated in summer school. I love him for that. He will be greatly missed!
