VIRGINIA "GINNY" ANN GEORGE

With great sadness we announce that Virginia Ann "Ginny" George left this life on February 22, just shy of 91 years old. She was surrounded by her children, Mike, Holly, Lisa, and Juli.
Ginny was born and raised an only child in rural Indiana to a basketball coach and teacher. She grew up a "gym rat" and never lost her love of the game. Never a fair-weather fan, she was thrilled to live long enough to see her beloved Nuggets win a national championship!
Her daddy's love of teaching also rubbed off and she attended Ball State Teacher's College. After graduation, she moved to California with her husband, Jim George, to start her teaching career. They fell in love with Colorado while driving home and soon moved to the front range. In 1963, they moved up to Woodland Park where she taught 1st grade for 33 years.
Ginny loved the mountains, loud family gatherings, gambling in Cripple Creek, traveling to see grandbabies, Mexican food, scrapbooking (which she started doing in first grade) a good book with Sassy cat on her lap, and a strong cup of coffee.
But her favorite thing was children. Not just her brood, but the over 800 6-year-olds she taught throughout her career. She loved every one of them.
She will be missed by so many, especially her 10 grandchildren, Maggie, Sarah, Abby, Darby, Alexa, Evan, Adam, Hannah, Marli, and Colin, and her 5 great-grandchildren, Calvin, Simon, Mia, Autumn, and Jameson.
To know her was to love her.
A memorial followed by food and fellowship will be held at Mountain View United Methodist Church, where she was a charter member, on March 16 at 11 am. As she always said, "All are welcome and the more the merrier."
