Virginia Reedy Obituary
Virginia "Ginny" Reedy passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2007. A resident of Colorado since 1968, she died at the age of 84 at her home at Loyalton of Broadmoor. Ginny was born on August 27, 1922, in Warren, Ohio, to George and Elizabeth Thompson, who preceded her in death. She graduated from high school in Warren and went on to attend Keuka College before meeting and being swept off her feet by her future husband, Jim Reedy. Ginny and Jim married on September 20, 1943, in Warren, Ohio. Jim was a career Army man, and he and Ginny spent many years of their life together traveling to Italy, France, Germany and other faraway places. Their military-related travels also introduced them to many places in the states, including California, Missouri and Colorado. When Ginny saw the mountains in Colorado, she knew it was where she and Jim would retire. After retiring from the military and moving to Colorado Springs in 1968 and later to Monument in 1972, Ginny and Jim enjoyed countless weekends camping with the kids and enjoying Mesa Verde, the Sand Dunes, Cave of the Winds and other local attractions. There were also fun-filled road trips to Ohio and Missouri to see family, and to other destinations just to see the sights. Ginny is survived by her daughters and children-in-law: Peggy Wieser, Jerry Wieser, Retta Penrod, Libby and Bob Radosevich, Kelly and Allen Peterson and Kathy Vinson; by her grandchildren: Kristen and Richard Davidson, Kelly Wieser, Kevin Wieser, Keith Wieser, James Reedy, Joey Reedy, Kalyn Peterson, Taylor Peterson and John Vinson; and by her great-granddaughter: Shelby Davidson. She was preceded in death by her lifelong friend and beloved husband Jim, who passed in 1984, and by her siblings Paul and Lois; her children Linda, Tommy and Terry; and her granddaughter Lindsey. Ginny was a dedicated home maker and above all loved her family and friends (and pets, most recently Valentine and Molly). She enjoyed Mah Jongg and Bingo with her friends, and could handily beat anyone at a game of Scrabble or cards any chance she got. A memorial service and reception will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at the Church at Woodmoor, located at 18125 Furrow Road in Monument, Colorado. Inurnment at the Monument Cemetery will follow at a later date. The family would like to recognize and thank all the wonderful caregivers that spent time with Ginny in recent years: Home Care & Companions (Linda, Stephanie, Elayne, and others), Zoe Geiger, The Bridge, Penrose Hospital, Pikes Peak Hospice and most especially the wonderful and caring staff at Ginny's home away from home, Loyalton of Broadmoor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at 225 North Michigan Avenue, 17th Floor, Chicago IL 60601; the American Diabetes Association at P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield VA 22116; or the Pikes Peak Humane Society at 610 Abbott Lane, Colorado Springs CO 80904.
