Vivian McMullen Obituary

Vivian McMullen
Feb. 14, 1920 - Oct. 31, 2014
Concord, CA
Vivian Lorraine McMullen came into this world on Valentine's Day and left it on Halloween.
Vivian spent her last 3 months at the La Orinda Care Home in Concord, CA where she was lovingly cared for. She previously resided at the Atria Montego Heights Assisted Living Facility in Walnut Creek, CA.
Vivian was born in Mille Lacs County, Township of Bogus Brook, Minnesota. Vivian was the fourth and youngest daughter of Carl H. Chuyler of Sweden and Ida Ingman of Finland. She is survived by two sisters, Vera Robinson of Forest Lake, MN and Dorothy Peterson, of New Braunfels, TX, and her two sons Michael McMullen of Burbank, CA and Patrick McMullen of Walnut Creek, CA.
Vivian graduated from Milaca High School, in Milaca, Minnesota. She married Pvt. Donald E. ("Mac") McMullen of Henderson, Iowa on Mar 6th, 1943. Vivian and "Mac" spent most of their working lives as business owners, first in Minnesota and then in California, primarily operating restaurants, hotels, and truck stops. Just before Donald's death in 1982, they managed an apartment complex in Van Nuys, California. After Donald's death, Vivian continued working as an apartment manager in various locations in California, ending up in Sacramento. After retiring in 1991, she spent 20 years living at the Riverview Plaza apartments, 600 I Street, where she enjoyed playing Scrabble and card games with her many friends there. Few could challenge her at the game of Scrabble.
Vivian was a wonderful mother to her two sons, and always showed a sincere kindness to everyone with whom she came in contact.  Even when she could not care for herself, she would still reach out to help those around her.
To the end Vivian was always elegantly dressed, and her favorite pastimes were crossword puzzles and Jeopardy. According to her wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial, just a "party" with family
and friends.
