Vivian Richardson Obituary

Vivian Marie Seendermann Richardson, 86, passed away Friday, November 29, 2013 at the Village at Skyline in Colorado Springs.

Vivian was born in Pueblo, CO, November 18, 1927. She is preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Susie (Donley) Seendermann, her sister Betty Finley, and her husband Kyle D. Richardson.

She is survived by her children: Judi (Mike) Tomlinson, Bruce (Jan) Richardson, Brian (Diane) Richardson, Brad (Rhonda) Richardson, Brent (Beth) Richardson, and Barry (Kelly) Richardson, and their families.

Vivian began life on the Billington Ranch in Westcliffe CO. At age 4, the family moved to Pueblo, where her father worked for F.C. Kay, owner of City Park Dairy in Pueblo. She attended Carlyle Elementary, Keating Jr. High and graduated from Pueblo Central High School in 1946. Vivian was active in 4-H with many projects including sewing and raising her prize Palomino horse, Flip. She was in Girl Scouts through Senior Scouts, was a leader of a Senior Troop, and maintained contact with 5 of her original Troop 9. She was also a member of the order of Rainbow Girls #7. Vivian graduated from Pueblo Junior College in 1948, and was a member of the Theta Beta Pi Sorority.

Vivian and Kyle were married August 29, 1948. They moved to Seattle, Washington where Kyle worked for Boeing Aircraft and their daughter, Judi was born. When Boeing went on strike, they returned to Colorado Springs and bought the Pikes Peak Laundry and Cleaners. Vivian and Kyle worked together for 27 years in the laundry business. The laundry was a "family affair", involving all 6 kids as well as their cousins and friends. The mantra was "work hard and play harder".

Vivian was an active member in La Sertoma, an International Women's Service Club in the 60's and 70's. She served as President of Pikes Peak La Sertoma, was Governor for 2 years of the Southern Colorado District, and International Director of Greater Rocky Mountain Region. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile. Vivian was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs. She volunteered and was very active with the non-profit organization, PILLAR.

After selling Pikes Peak Laundry and Cleaners, Vivian worked at Current, Inc. as a Customer Service Representative and retired in 1997. Vivian enjoyed spending time with her family (10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter). She said her Family was her Life. She always loved having everyone gather at her house for Christmas family gift-giving.

After Kyle's death from leukemia July 2, 1982, Vivian was strong with a positive outlook on life, and was glad she was able to continue to work. She had many friends that were very supportive especially her Potluck friends of over 65 years. After retiring, Vivian moved into the computer age with endless searches for family ancestors and became a great family historian. Her hobbies were collecting Pueblo memorabilia, especially City Park Dairy and Walter's Beer, Ruby Red glass and glass baskets.

She was an avid sports fan (Broncos, Rockies, Nuggets, and Avalanche) but especially hockey after 18 years taking the 5 boys to their practices and games. She delighted in her grandchildren's sports too and attended every game she could. She loved antiquing, crafts, quilting, counted cross stitch, and travel. Vivian loved to talk to people and was loved by all who knew her. No matter where she went, she would find someone she knew or had a connection. She often dropped everything to help someone else, friend, or family.

She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.

Visitation will be at Swan-Law Mortuary, 501 N. Cascade Ave. Colorado Springs on December 5, 2013 from 4-7 pm. Vivian's Celebration of Life will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 2111 Carlton Ave. Colorado Springs on December 6, 2013 at 1:00 pm. I was friends with the Richerson's boy in Jr. high and high school . I remember Vivian as an amazing home maker and mother . I still remember her canning in her kitchen , and the home cooked meals she made .The dinner table was a little crowded , she all ways made room for one more. Watching how she and Kyle ran Pike Peak Laundry together as a family made me a little jealous wishing I had a family like that. RIP MR and MRS. Richardson

I wanted so much to attend Vivian's memorial but the huge snow prevented it. Vivian was a dear friend and a lovely lady. Her gracious spirit endeared her to those around her. Her legacy is the wonderful family that was her pride and joy. I shall never forget her and our times together.

How we all LOVED to get together with your family to camp. We learned so much from your camping family, and we had such fun playing games with each other. I remember lots of times together for meals and just "friends and family" time, too. I know our whole family considered you all dear friends. We will miss you dear Vivian. Rejoice in your time with our Lord Jesus! We will be once again together one day in Christ.

Mrs. Richardson, I met you through your children. It was easy to see how much they loved you, and it was clear how much you loved them. It was a pleasure to know you, and I will continue to think of you every time I drive past your house.

Dear miss Vivian, she was my 2nd mother, loved me like a daughter since I was 16 years old. She taught me to love cross stitching, which I have continued to do for 33 years. She has touched my life in many ways I cannot put into words. Love you always , treasure every memory and hold your love in my heart every day. My heart goes out to my entire Richardson family in this sad time. Love to all, Kelly

Mom,
What I will always remember is the crafting we did together - the craft shows Thanksgiving weekend and the making and selling of the stiffy baskets.
What I will always be thankfull for are all the times you came to help with Dan and Dave and all the games of theirs you attended.
What I have learned from you - Be of service to others, Be the best friend I can be.
Most of all you showed me how to be the Best Grandma ever.

Grandma, you were the glue that held our family together. You were such a loving, caring, selfless, funloving person and I enjoyed every minute that I was able to spend with you. Whether I was going to the symphony or a baseball game with you we always had an amazing time together. I appreciated all of the time we spent together, you came to all of my band concerts and marching band competitions and every family event. You will be greatly missed at all of our life events but I feel blessed knowing you will be watching over us from heaven. We love you so very much grandma and will miss your presence every day. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel with you there. Love, Maureen, Johnny and Isabelle Byers
