Wallace Lawrence Medina Obituary

Wallace Lawrence Medina passed away on November 29, 2015 near his home on Merritt Island, Florida at the age of 74. Known to all as Wally, he was born in Alamosa, Colorado on June 25, 1941. When he moved to Colorado Springs with his family, he began his life of service with Safeway as a baker, School District 11 driving school buses, and maintaining the swimming pools at the high schools. He found his true calling as a Police Officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department where he served for 33 years, retiring in 2003 as a Lieutenant. He lived his life in service to the community and belonged to many volunteer and police organizations. He was a devoted sports fan and never missed a chance to watch the Denver Broncos in person. Wally was also an avid reader and movie watcher whose collection of books and films rivaled that of any library or video store.

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Mary Medina, and his two sisters Violet Rogers and Bonnie Scott. He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Riner, granddaughter Katarina Riner, niece Jennene Scott and nephews Owen Scott and Larry Rogers.

A Rosary will be said on December 6, at 7:30 PM at Evergreen Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held on December 7, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Wally will be dearly missed! He was my dad's best friend through the years. He was not only a good family friend, but he was a wonderful supervisor! Prayers to the family.

I remember LT Medina from when we both worked in the Independence Building downtown COS in the mid-1980's. He worked down the hall from me and was always a delight to talk with - he was a great guy. I was sorry to read that he passed away. My thoughts go out to him and his family.

Dear Missy
I've never had the pleasure of meeting you but I have heard so much about you from your father! You were his pride & joy & he loved you with all of his heart & soul! I enjoyed working with Wally! He was above all a very good man, & a dedicated cop! On the fun side he was the Ultra Champion Practical Joker of the CSPD! I'm sure Billy will be waiting to greet him! May God provide comfort & peace to you during this very difficult time!
