Walter B. Riggs, 86, passed away unexpectedly on July 11,2021 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. He was born October 6, 1934. He was born in Savannah, GA the son of J.C. and Leola Riggs.
He served his country proudly for over twenty years as a member of the U.S. Army. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran. While in service he met the love of his life Ruth in Mannheim, Germany. He asked her daughter Marianne if it was OK to marry her mom. When she said yes, the rest was history. They lived happily ever after for the next 59 years.
He is pre-deceased by his spouse Ruth Monika Riggs. He is survived by his daughter Marianne Oglesby, son-in-law Edward Oglesby, grandchild Victoria Peterson, grand-son-in-law Brad Peterson and great grandchildren Katie Peterson and Christopher Peterson.
Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Monday, 7/19/2021 and Funeral service on Tuesday, 7/20/2021 at 10am at Dove-Witt Mortuary in Fountain, CO. followed by Committal at Pikes Peak National Cemetery at 12pm.

Sargent Riggs was my track commander in Vietnam. The crew nicknamed him Pappy cause he was way older than us. We were in good hands under his command .R.I.P. Pappy

I was sorry to hear this he wS my section sgt in viet nam. We went over from Carson in 68.
Because of him I made the army a career. He was one of the best ncos I ever knew.
