Walter Short Obituary

Walter Joseph "Bud" Short, age 76, passed away peacefully in Scottsdale, AZ, on November 16, 2016.

Bud was born at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs on March 7, 1940, the son of Fredrick and Frances "Pink" Short of Colorado Springs.

He attended Cheyenne Mountain High School and received his bachelor's in Business from Colorado State University. He earned an MBA in retailing from New York University.

Upon graduation he worked as a buyer at Kaufman's department store in Colorado Springs. He went on to co-found the women's clothing stores Scots Ltd. and Carousel, and he later owned and managed the Mark Cross store at the Broadmoor Hotel.

In the nineties, Bud began a second career (and calling) in academia as a professor in the PGA golf management program at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, MI. In 1996, he and his wife founded the educational publishing company The Short Books.

Bud met his first wife Jeannette Cheley in Denver. They had two children, Cara and Andy. After his wife's passing, he married Loretta Jewett, and became stepfather to Alicia and Joe Rosenthal. He was a deeply devoted husband and father to his children and nine grandkids.

Bud is survived by Andy and Jill Short of Scottsdale (children Andrew and Katie); Cara and Bob Magers (Anabel and Sara) of Louisville, KY; Alicia Bonahoom (Claire, Joe, Alex) of Grosse Pointe, MI; Joe and Karri Rosenthal (Jonah and Livia) of Glencoe, IL; and brother Bill (Jean) of Sarasota, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 10 at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church in Grosse Pointe, MI.
