Wanda Cox Obituary

Wanda Lee Cox of Colorado Springs passed away on Monday, June 6, 2011 due to complications from Parkinson's disease. She was 77. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Thomas J. Cox, five children and six grandchildren. Surviving children and extended family are Bill Cox (Tina, Brendan, Erin) of Rescue, CA; Cheryl Daly of St. Petersburg, FL; David Cox (Carolyn Anne) of Palmdale, CA; Steven Cox (Michelle, Carson, Tanner) of Boulder, CO and Kevin Cox (Colleen, Wyatt, Fynn) of Arvada, CO. She is also survived by one brother, Hubert Harold Moore of Keyes, CA and two sisters, Dorothy Garrett of Ceres, CA and Alta Imogene Willis of Okemah, OK. Wanda was born in Cherokee Country in Wagoner, Oklahoma on November 5, 1933 to Clyde and Gladys Estelle Moore. She was part of a large family (5 brothers, 3 sisters) and spent her childhood days on the family farm. She migrated with her family to California's Central Valley following the Great Depression, and on June 25, 1950 married Thomas J. Cox in Keyes, CA. As their family grew, career allowed Tom and Wanda the opportunity to live in numerous places including Colorado, Arizona, Massachusetts, and, principally, California (Palmdale, Carlsbad, and San Francisco area, among other places). In addition to raising five children, Wanda worked through much of her life, often in the electronics industry at companies such as Rockwell, TRW and NCR Microelectronics. She was a quick and confident friend, known to be easy going and to have a good sense of humor by those she worked with and quilted with. In 1996, Tom and Wanda returned to Colorado Springs to retire in the Cragmoor neighborhood house that they had bought in 1977. Wanda will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Wanda had a gentle, true spirit that will, no doubt, live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Wanda's favorite pastimes were quilting, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. Wanda will be laid to rest at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 17, 2011 at 12:00 noon at Staging Area 'C'.

Worked with Wanda at TRW. She will be remembered as a gentle, loving lady. I am rejoiced in the fact that she will suffer no longer, and in a much better place.

I will always remember Wanda as a sweet, quiet friend and we spent lots of quality time making quilts together in Connie Harms groups. Wanda made beautiful quilts and shared valuable information and help when others needed it. She is certainly missed by all.
