Wayne Futak Obituary

Wayne A. Futak
August 20, 1926
April 30, 2012
Resident of Dublin
Wayne Futak passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, April 30.
Wayne touched many lives with his caring, engaging and outgoing nature and made everyone he met feel like family.
He was born and raised in South Gate, CA. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served as a signalman during World War II.
He met the love of his life, Dorothy, on a blind date at a beach party and they married in 1950. Together they cherished time with their growing family for 61 years.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, Wayne enrolled at Pepperdine University, where he received his degree in Business Administration.
Wayne started his business career with the retailer Montgomery Ward and stayed with the company for 35 years, holding many managerial positions.
After his retirement he was a docent aboard the USS Hornet for 10 years.
Throughout his life he enjoyed boating, camping, fishing, watching his 49ers, and tinkering in the garage and with his cars. He also loved spending time with Dorothy at Lake Tahoe and on drives to the ocean.
He is survived by his wife and a large loving family. His family includes Wayne Jr. (Lyn) of Danville, Mark of Atascadero, Linda Lawhorn (Paul) of Antioch, Tom (Susie) of Rodeo, and 11 grandchildren and their families, including four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Graham-Hitch Mortuary in Pleasanton on Saturday, May 12, at 1 p.m.
Memorial gifts in Wayne's name may be made to the USS Hornet Museum, Donations Office, Pier 3, Alameda Point, P.O. Box 460 Alameda, CA 94501

I have such wonderful memories growing up with the Futak Family and time on the water at Bass Lake learning how to water ski. Wayne was such a kind, patient, and loving father, husband, and I am sure friend. I wish for you that your sadness heals soon. Maybe he and Dad are sharing Monkey Wards stories now, or at least playing cards. God bless.
