Wayne Lemle Obituary

Wayne E. Lemle, a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado since 1943, passed away September 23, 2006 at a local nursing facility from declining health due to old age. He was born July 16, 1916 in Fowler, Kansas at his parent's farm. Wayne wanted a career other than farming so he left Fowler to find work as a film projectionist in motion picture theaters. While working at the theater in Branson, Missouri, he met E. Marie Jones. They were married June 12, 1941. Marie passed away December 5, 1999. They had no children. After Marie and Wayne settled in Colorado Springs, Wayne was a projectionist for motion pictures at the Ute and Cooper Theaters. He also worked and managed live stage shows at United Artists, the Broadmoor, City Auditorium, the Pikes Peak Center, the Air Force Academy, and Arnold Hall Theater. Wayne worked directly with many stars of the entertainment world including Liberace, Sal Mineo, Imogene Coca, the Smothers Brothers, Nat King Cole, Wayne King and Bob Ralston, organist for the Lawrence Welk Show. Wayne joined the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) in 1942. He was Secretary-Treasurer for a period of time and was the President and business representative of Union Local 62 for many years. Because of his work he attended the University of Colorado at Denver studying labor law. Wayne received awards for his union duties and retired in 1994. From 1949 to 1991 the Lemles owned and operated Lemles Round House and Model Train Shop. They were members of the National Railway Historical Society. They were active in local model railroad clubs and established the Colorado Model Railroad Club which became the Golden Circle Railroad Club. Wayne and Marie were community orientated and regularly contributed to several local and national charities. Wayne had one brother who preceded him in death. Wayne is survived by two nieces, Francine Brehm and Gayla Sue Jaggers; a cousin, Audraff Kimball; a nephew, Gene Bates; a niece, Kay McCleary; and his sister-in-law, Opal Bates (Marie's sister). Judith & Scott Shook

October 19, 2006

Judy "Toody"(nee Lebowsky)& Scott Shook, of Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio, met Wayne in APR 2002 in Colorado Springs,CO. He was a cousin in Judy's "Lemle Geneaogy Line." Wayne & his nieces, Gayla Sue (nee Lemle) Jaggers & Francine (nee Lemle)Brehm met with Judy & Scott at "The Broadmoor," which had been Wayne's place of work as theater projection manager! Judy & Scott were at a conference there. That April, 2002, day, they exchanged all kinds of antique photos and family history. Wayne Lemle kindly kept up a telephone & mail contact with Judy so he could contribute to her Lemle Genealogy line work. Wayne Lemle had in his possession a basket with a lid that Franz Peter & Paulina (nee Weidemann) Lemle brought with them on the "Bark Laura." Wayne also sent Judy many clippings from papers about his family; especially his paternal Grandfather, Sebastian Lemle's Obituary, and his paternal Grandmother, Antonio (nee Neipp; nee Fehr)Lemle's obituary. They kept in touch until about Jan, 2006. Wayne shared so many wonderful memories of growing up & what his family was like. It made the Lemle Family History become more alive. Wayne & his brother, Francis "Pete" Lemle were sons of Albert & Pearl Grace (nee McSherry). Albert Edward Lemle, their father, was the son of Sebastian [Nickname:"Bochtel"]Lemle & Antonio(nee Neipp; nee Fehr-1st marriage to Charles Fehr ended with his death from smallpox along with their youngest child, Herman Fehr) Lemle. In 1880, Anotonio remarried to Sebastian Lemle [Sebastian had moved to Westminster Township, Reno County, Kansas, in the late 1870's. It is felt that his oldest brother, Johann"John" Lemle, widower of Mina/Minnie (nee Younghans Lemle) had settled in this area, too--in fact, it was Wayne Lemle who told Judy the story of Wayne & "Pete's" parent, plus Wayne and wife, Marie, visiting his father, Albert's cousin, Leo Lemle, in St. Petersburg, Floria, during World War II. Leo was 1 of 4 children {Laura Eleanora, Hildah, Leo & Veronica Lemle} born to John & Mina/Minnie (nee Younghans)Lemle-Mina's Death is listed in the St. Louis, MO Death Listing, dying 13 OCT 1893 in St. Louis, MO. If it had not been for Wayne Lemle sharing this story, our Lemle line in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio, would have not been able to ever find where Johann/John Lemle {the oldest of the 17 children} had gone to after moving to Richfield Township, Lucas County, Ohio with his parents after their emigration}.Sebastian Lemle helped raise Antionio's 3 children from her marriage to Charles Fehr; Augusta, Joseph & Charles Frederick Fehr. Sebastian Lemle was sister to my maternal Great-grandmother, Veronica (nee Lemle) Schaal, of Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio. The Lemle Family emigrated on the ship, "Bark Laura" from Odenheim, Baden, Germany, out of Antwerp, Belgium, arriving in New York, NY on 30 NOV 1864. Sebastian was one of the 11 still-living children of Franz Peter [Known was Peter in USA] & Paulina (nee Weidemann) Lemle, who sailed with them on the "Bark Laura." The final count of children was 17! with Jacob Lemle being born in the USA in Richfield Township, Lucas County, Ohio, on 20 OCT 1867.
All of the Lemle/Schaal related family in the Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio, area send our sympathies to his Lemle Family in Kansas and Colorado, and to his late wife, Marie's family. We never knew Marie, but Wayne told us loving stories of her, so we feel like we met her. Scott & Judy are so glad that Wayne Lemle crossed their pathes in this life, & Judy is proud to count him in her family line. Rest in Peace, Wayne--You are with your Marie now.

I was about 8 years old when I first meet Wayne and Marie 40 years ago as young boy interested in model trains. This meeting turned into a long and close friendship. Moving to Florida 6 years ago created some distance between Wayne and my family. In 1994 Wayne and Marie signed as witnesses on my marriage license. They became known affectionately as Grandpa Wayne and Grandma Marie to my daughter Katy, now 8. Wayne will be deeply missed as has been Marie but never forgotten. May they be together again in peace.
