Wilford Barnett Obituary

Wilford M. “Barney Barnett, a Colorado Springs resident since 2000, passed away on September 14, at the age of 80. He served his country honorably for 22 years in the United States Air Force, in peacetime and during the Cold War and the Vietnam War eras. During his Air Force career, Barney earned the nickname “Fireball Barnett for his outstanding skills as a softball pitcher on the base's traveling All-Stars team. Barney was born August 5, 1929 in rural Bluejacket, Oklahoma to Milton Barnett and Stella (Cook) Barnett. He married Patricia Jane Hogan in Syracuse, New York and they were blessed with 46 wonderful years together. Besides assignments in the United States, the family enjoyed exploring Europe during a tour of duty in Spain. Their retirement years were spent in Florida, North Carolina, and Colorado Springs. Barney was a skilled woodworker who also enjoyed restoring clocks and playing golf. He was a gentle, quiet man, and a tower of strength for his family. He will be greatly missed by his wife Patricia, daughter Mary Anne Mozzetta, son-in-law Stephen Mozzetta, and grandchildren Kelly, Jennifer, Jonathan, and Rachel. Visitation will be at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 8755 Scarborough Drive, Thursday, September 17, from 9:00 - 9:30 am, followed by recitation of the Rosary, and the funeral Mass at 10:00 am. The reception will be immediately after Mass, also at St Gabriel, and Graveside Services with Air Force honors will be at 2:30 pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Staging Area “B.
