Willard Cox Obituary

Willard Carleton Cox, 94, of Neoga, IL departed from us late Sunday March 2, 2014 to be with the Lord.

A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 on Saturday March 8th 2014 at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. A memorial service will begin at 11:00; Military Rites conducted by Cumberland County Veterans will be held immediately following at the funeral chapel.

Willard was born in River Rouge, Michigan to Robert Lincoln and Evie (Snyder) Cox. He married Mary Fundaro in 1949 and she preceded him in 2004.

He is survived by daughters Susan (Jerry) Hanfland of Neoga and Dion Mercier of Colorado Springs, Colorado; son Robert Lincoln (Julie) Cox of Vermilion, Ohio. He was grandpa to Jessica Hanfland, Elesha Mercier, Nicholas Hanfland, Sarah Cox and Jeffrey Cox, and great grandpa to Emiel and Jayton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Jeffrey Carleton Cox and wife Mary; brothers Edmund and Richard and sisters Laura and Evelyn.

He was a World War II Veteran, a sergeant in the first armored division, from February 21, 1941, serving in North Africa to Northern Italy until May 12, 1945. When he returned, he attended General Motor's Institute (GMI) graduating with a degree in engineering. He worked at Ford Motor Company for over 30 years. He was a lifetime Gold Member of the NRA. He will be greatly missed.
