We should honor Will Mason by caring about the wonderful world in which we live, protecting its history, and those entrusted with its preservation never forget its importance to future generations.
Will did more than even he realized to help others realize that God through nature bestowed upon all of us wonders beyond belief. He was instrumental in focusing public attention, most notably our children, on the importance and of our National Parks, the National Park Service and their resources.
Some interpretative rangers have exceptional talents in the purity of the history of our national treasures. They love to explain why and how they came to be protected. Others share their knowledge of complex scientific issues of how they came to be in the first place over millenniums. It is rare to find a ranger who combines a bit or both talents and can make a national park experience indeed personal to each visitor. Will was such a ranger.
Aside from this, Will was a good man and friend.
In my life I have served on a Presidential Reception Committee, dined with Governors, conversed with National and State Legislators and provided counsel to Generals. In his own way, Will Mason is as great a man as any of these. More importantly, he was a great friend to all who know him.
I look forward to seeing Will again in Our Father's house of many mansions.

Willard had so many friends at Schriever AFB where we all worked together. We are all saddened by his passing. No one enjoyed their friends or their food quite as much as he did. He was just a wonderful person. We will all miss him.
