I worked with Willard with the Today Show at a grand opening of a mall in Lafayette, IN. He was warm, charming and gracious to everyone he met. Did a book signing and stayed for the very last fan, spreading smiles the entire time. He is missed.

The family of Sherman C Hildreth (former Director of Operations NBC/WRC-TV) offer our sincere condolences to Paris and family. Willard brought many smiles and laughter to those who were fortunate to work at 4001 Nebraska Ave.
Many fond memories for me as a summer stage hand preparing the paper weather maps with fingers crossed the double tape would hold them in place. And enjoying between show dinners at McLean Gardens as Willard would lighten up the TV announcers with his wit and humour.
May you Rest In Peace as you bring happiness to those you come across in the Heavens.

Dear Mary & Sally,
My deepest condolences. Your father was one of the happiest persons that I ever got to meet; his laugh and smile were infectious. To spend a moment in his enthusiastic presence was an honor, I thought that you two were the luckiest girls in the world for having such a cheerful and supportive dad.

We, the Lake family of Kensington, Md would like to thank Willard for all the happiness that he brought to our family over the many decades he spent in the DC area. He was always a star at local parades in Bethesda which my parents always took us to see. A more giving, positive person he was. We were all so sad upon his passing last Saturday.
Snickers has, and will remain our jam of choice. Young people today will not know who Willard was, but he was a part of our early years. May he Rest In Peace. He was a wonderful person.

A legend...there are few people who by merely being there, can make you feel like the world is okay for one more day. Willard Scott was one of them. No matter what troubles could be present on any given day, just seeing Willard on TV doing the weather and bantering with folks, makes you feel things will be okay. Willard had a way of allowing you to feel happy about life and feeling lucky to be around to share this day...today. He will be missed by many more people than we realize. Thank you Willard Scott for making a positive mark in lives you never knew.

This is less a condolence than a lovely memory and missed opportunity for appreciation...
My high school friend Trina Neuhauser's mother was "in love" with Willard! I visited Trina in NYC 1982-3 when I was interviewing Russians for two weeks mostly in Brooklyn for a study. One night we went to dinner at a small, very quiet Italian neighborhood restaurant near E 81st where she was living and found Willard Scott eating there alone. Trina waited for him to finish his meal then, breaking ALL NYC protocol!, approached him for an autograph for her mother. She called her mother from a pay phone en route home to tell her. Her mother first thought the autograph was from Paul Newman! I wish we'd gone back to the restaurant to try to find Scott to tell him he'd made the top 2 of her mother's favorites. Trina said her mother kept that autograph on her refrigerator door til the day she died...

I grew up doors away from willard on commonwealth ave. alexandria va. I knew him well and his mom and dad Herman and Thelma AND his dog RADAR. All of us called him Sonny never Willard. Willard put on movies for us kids (He was 10 years older than me ) and MC with a stick as a mike in his backyard and basement. He had the kids from the neighborhood on his show called BARNYARD PARTY. Every Sunday ED Walker ( his partner on the radio show Joy Boys) came to willards house for pork roast that Thelma cooked for him. willard was president of his class in high school all four years. My sister went to high school with him at G.W. High alexandria va. Ther are SO FEW PEOPLE who remember willard back in the old neiborhood. His house where he grew up is still there along with all the neighborhood homes. Its as though nothing has changed in the hood!! I was told willard hid the original key to his house in his basement . sonny was a truly kind wonderful soul and loved by everybody. Rest in Peace dearest willard. Your kind outgoing spirit will live on!!!!

Maybe 45 or 47 years ago, when Willard and Mary lived in Upperville, Virginia, we carpooled their daughters Mary and Sally with our daughter Cricket Stone, to riding lessons in Paris, VA. They were wonderful with which to share this. My husband and I would stay up every night Willard was the weatherman on TV, to watch his frequent antics. He was a joy to know. Mary and Sally, I am so sorry for your loss. Paris, I am sorry I did not know you, but I am sure you brought him much joy.

We are so sad to hear of the loss of our dear friend. We have been friends and/ or neighbors on Sanibel Island , FL and Bald Head Island, NC. I think most people who knew Willard got to feel he was a friend. We loved sharing birthdays ,meals or just listening to so many stories. He has left behind so much and will be missed. Our best to his family. He once said they were his best investments and when his first wife Mary died he said his daughters were his dividends. So sweet! Hugs and best wishes from Elise and Rick Kennedy
