What's the difference between a duck? "Billisim"

William "Bill" Anthony Benson, 82 years of age, passed away peacefully on October 20, with family by his side in Colorado Springs, CO.
Bill was born on December 29th, 1940, in Brooklyn, NY to the late William and Marie Benson. He is one of 3 children. He is preceded in death by his younger brother, Robert Benson, his stepdaughter Jackie Johnson and his grandson Alex Hoag.
Bill ran track in HS that resulted in a scholarship to Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, KS where he graduated with a degree in Chemistry. He taught High School Chemistry in Ulysses, KS and in Kansas City, KS before starting a successful career in Real Estate in Raymore, MO where he won numerous awards over his 30 plus year career. He then retired in 2010 and headed West to Colorado Springs to be close to his stepdaughter and her two boys.
Bill/Dad/Pops/Papa was cherished by all. When he moved to Colorado, he became friends with many of his grandson's previous teachers and was soon volunteering at McAuliffe and Trailblazer Elementary Schools with the 4th and 5th graders, primarily helping with math but always helping whoever needed the extra love. He would share with his family the funny stories of working with the kids and how much joy they brought to his life. They truly loved him, and he truly loved them. Not surprisingly he won Volunteer of the Year for his service
Bill enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family, enjoying a little glass of whiskey, the occasional cigar and time with his stepdaughter's dog, Greta. Walking was his number one passion, and he made many acquaintances on the trails. He loved to talk about his days as a boy in New York. One of his stories included the time he dressed up like a mummy on a bet with friends and had to beg for money (in costume) to get home on the train! He enjoyed playing around with his friends in Belmont Park, and helping his father with anything he was asked to do. He shared many funny stories about the Brooklyn Dodgers Sym-Phony Band that played during the games.
Pops was known for his hilarious, slightly inappropriate jokes that would come out of nowhere and have everyone on the floor laughing. He enjoyed old TV shows such as: Mash, Gunsmoke, and the news. Additionally, he tried his hand at Jeopardy with his son-in-law, and watched sports - especially the Yankees.
Bill is survived by his brother Peter Benson, his son Tony Benson, stepdaughter Kim Green, son-in-law Kevin Green, grandchildren Cooper Hoag, Ian Hoag and Taylor Noel, grand son-in-law Zach Noel and great-grandson Landon.

"One leg is both the same." "Billism"
( If ya know ya know…!)

He will be missed by all.

There will be a Celebration of Bill's Life on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Patty Jewett Golf Course - Town and Gown Room at 2:00pm. All are welcome!

Judy Knitter and Family

November 18, 2023

To Kim,
Bill worked for my husband Bob Knitter for a lot of years. Bob respected and looked up to Bill, he was the best real estate agent he ever had - because of his work ethic, and just the kind of person he was. I did not know Bill as much as Bob did, but I knew how much my husband admired him. He kept that business opened for so many years and we felt like we owed him!

When you and Linda came to work with us at our real-estate company, Bob and I were very grateful. You pulled the company up, and without you both, we probably would have lost the business. Bob respected you and learned so much from you! You were a loyal employee and a good friend. You worked for Bob for many years and retired from Coldwell Banker -- and we were glad to see you move on to your second stage of life enjoying retirement in Colorado. After you left Bob missed you a lot, but knew you deserved that time of your life after working so hard for years. Thank you again Bill for coming into our life! Judy & Bob Knitter
