William Boandl Obituary

On this 10th anniversary of Bill´s passing, I am reminded of the loyal friendly approach Bill had to a high profile and hi stress occupation. His demeanor and heart are immense and his consistency of character were exemplary. Miss you still as a pillar of the profession... a good friend ... and a wonderful role model for us all. Mr. Boandl was one of the most influential people of my life...and he is missed dearly. His dedication to his students was second to none and I am confident his legacy lives on every single day in the people he has touched. God bless you, Mr. B.

It was easy to admire and respect Bill Boandl. He was one of the most gracious, elegant, kind, and talented teachers I have ever known. He was second to none in his dedication, passion, and love for his students. His inspirational talent not only provided the Blue Eagles band program everlasting memories, but was the foundation for the band's renowned integrity, dignity, and character. He will always be Nazareth's Blue Eagle. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are wished for his lovely wife, Kim and the entire Boandl family.

I wish to extend my deepest sympathies and regret to the entire Boandl family. Mr. Boandl was one of my favorite teachers, and I was very sad I did not get to relay that message to him. My condolences to the entire Boandl family. Mr. B touched my life as well as many other students who had him as a teacher. He inspired and pushed me which shaped me into the woman I am today. He was an amazing instructor and teacher who will never leave my heart. He will be missed and I will never forget him.

And I have to say thank you to all his family for sharing such an incredible man with us all he was my daughter Kelsey ('11), and sons Austin and Alex's band director as well as concert and Honor Band which my youngest son Jake was lucky enough to be with him as well but without him my children's love for band would never have been what it is and for that I can never repay as he has shaped them as well as all the kids into amazing young men and women. His loss is so greatly felt and will be felt for always but RIP Mr. B you were an incredible person who will always be the music in our hearts??

My deepest condolences to Mr. B's family and friends. I was a member of the Blue Eagle Marching band from '89 to '91 and I am so saddened to hear of his passing. God Bless you for what you did for the Lehigh Valley. You will be missed!!!

Mr. Boandl was such an inspiring teacher. As a previous student of his, I could tell that when he conducted and taught music, he truly enjoyed every bit of it. He had such a motivating personality, and of course his sense of humor in the band room was always something I looked forward to. Even after I stopped playing in the band, I loved saying hi to him around the halls at the high school, and I very much enjoyed seeing him conduct for our Theatre Troupe during rehearsals. I am so glad to have known Mr. Boandl. May he rest in peace.

May his family and friends be at peace during the difficult time. His passion for music could be seen in those he tought. May his memory live on.

The Boandl Family is one special family. Going into Middle School, I liked drumming and hitting things like any other little kid did. During band I would watch Mr. Boandl lead the concert band, give directions to the horns and I thought it was "magical".. The way he could make anything sound good, even if it was a bunch of middle school saxophones. He was a great leader, musician, teacher, and a great man. He will definitely be missed, no doubt, and it will never be the same, but to me he is still very alive in our hearts. He is one of the reason that I will practice for hours upon hours. I wouldn't be the musician I am today without his help, and I only wish that I could've gotten the chance to thank him. He is the reason that I will succeed at everything I do in life because of all of the lessons he taught us. Mr. Boandl didn't ONLY influence me, but also every single student that has been under his wings. He is an irreplaceable man, and he will never be forgotten. His legacy will live on and he will continue to influence students, even with his passing. Rest in peace Mr. Boandl. He has lived a great life, and I will cherish the memories and lessons that he taught me, and everybody else forever. My condolences to the Boandl Family.

My deepest sympathy to the Boandl family with the passing of Bill....I had to read it afew times to let the memories of the 1970's sink in...I was a member of Whitehall's band and almost every Saturday night we would be in heavy competition with Bills school or in a parade and while competing you became friends, then there was County Band, Larc, District Band....just doing things together.....he enjoyed his friends, his music and life. from what I have read he continued that very well and has left quite a legacy in the Valley. Again, so sorry for your loss of a wonderful young man I recall who continued his path to an awesome man, father and husband.

My condolences to Brad, Becky, Mrs. Boandl and the rest of the Boandl family. We are all poorer for Mr. B's departure. He was an excellent example of a compassionate leader, as well as a dedicated educator and beloved mentor to hundreds. We were lucky to have learned music, responsibility, and leadership under his guidance. I hope you all can find solace in the fact that the rest of the band family grieves along with you, and will remember Mr. B with fondness and reverence.

Mr. Boandl's life was one to emulate and celebrate. His life touched this community for decades and the impact he had on the lives of his students was so evident in the tributes several of them gave at his memorial service yesterday. What made each story of him the same, was the fact that he made every single one of them feel important, needed, and special! The tribute his brothers wrote of him was full of the same wonderful humor for which Mr. Boandl was known. It was his good humor, smile, never-malicious and always-playful teasing that made him a favorite teacher to my twins, Adriana and Alexandra, to whom, like many other of his students, he gave nicknames. They were never in marching band, but were invited to dance in the formation one season. I, therefore, had the opportunity to get a small glimpse into the world of this amazing organization which he made to flourish! And under his guidance, my California-transplanted daughters, were able to flourish, too! He made us a part of this community like no one else could have! His joy and zest for life were evident, perhaps because he was able to engage in his passion as a profession every day of his life. May we all be so blessed in our lives and may we each make others feel important, needed, and special! Well done, good and faithful servant. The heavens have an amazing new conductor.

When my family moved to Nazareth for the better of the family, I was in the 9th grade and it was very difficult for me to fit in. It was recommended I try band...only I couldn't read music. That didn't matter to Mr. Boandl..he welcomed everyone to his band family. His encouragement and inspiration made high school less intimidating for me and many students. He truly lived a meaningful life. May his family find peace and comfort.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Boandl family. He let me borrow a school flute for a month to see if I could learn to play. I bought my own and am still playing over 30 years later. Grateful to Mr. B. and all the Boandl family for the music, memories and friendships in our lives.

The world of music has lost a voice but a new director is bringing his talents to a heavenly chorus.

It is with a very sad and heavy heart that we learned of Mr. Boandl's passing. When I look at my daughter, I know that the confidence she carries with her today has been greatly influenced by Mr.Boandl...perhaps this is the most beautiful part of his legacy for so many students. I feel so blessed and grateful for my daughter's middle school journey with him. Heaven has certainly gained a new angel, but we will miss him dearly! Thinking of his family, especially today, and wishing for the many wonderful memories to help heal your pain.

We have been blest to have had Bill Boandl in our schools and community. He was a role model and inspiration for many hundreds of young people and adults. His "good works" will be a lasting legacy for all of us.

I was a student of his (class of 1983) and my fondest memories of high school are from the band activities. He put a lot of hard work into his students. I hope he had as much fun teaching us as we had learning from him. It was great how the whole family was involved and cheered on the band in competitions. Being in the band lead by Mr. Boandl was a great experience. I will never forget him.

Bill touched so many lives in the short time he had here. When we remember him, we must speak of him, share that memory. In that way, he will live on being a part of our lives. Cancer can never take that away from us.

Kim and family. So sorry to hear about Bill. You have my deepest sympathy. He will be truly missed. I remember meeting Bill for the first time. It was at my interview for the HS Choreography position and I was nervous. But Bill was joking and being just "Bill" and the nerves went away and a new friend came instead. I will miss him as we all will miss him.

Brad- Please know that both my father's thoughts and mine are with you and your family during this trying time. My father wishes he could make the service, but we are out of town. You were very lucky to have experienced his goodness and grace as a child, a student, and as a colleague. Cherish those memories.

Bill Boandl touched the lives of many as a colleague, teacher, mentor and friend. Mr. B was a wonderful mentor to me. Starting in high school and lasting into my professional career, he made an enormous impact on me as a musician and person. I am forever thankful and fortunate to have had such an amazing teacher. I wish the family strength in facing the coming weeks and I hope it helps to know your father, husband, brother, has made a huge difference in the lives of everyone he interacts with. So sad to hear the news. We all loved Mr. B. So many happy memories, from marching band competitions to football games to hanging out in the band room with the other kids who were just as excited about music. My deepest condolences to the entire Boandl family. I have a fond memory of Mr B. When I was a member of the marching band, we had gone on a trip to NY. There at a reception for us I watched as Bill & Kim danced to their favorite song. For those of us who speculated, there was no doubt how much they loved each other. And that lasted 33 years.

Bill was my birthday buddy. Even though I only saw him a few times since high school days (at Nazareth Band competitions - always a "clean" performance), every year or so we would exchange cards and updates. I had just bought my card for Bill for this year when I heard the sad news. I'll miss my birthday buddy - he was always in my thoughts on that day. His family is now in my thoughts and prayers. Mr. and Mrs. Boandl - you raised an oustanding son. He touched a lot of people's lives in a positive way and for that you can be so proud.

I read this quote this morning. Mr. Boandl has touched so many lives. We were so fortunate to have him teach our students at Nazareth. I believe his legacy will live on forever.

So sorry to hear of this sad news. My condolences to all of the family and friends who knew and loved Bill.

I am deeply saddened by this news. High school marching band was a truly formative experience for me, owing entirely to Mr. B's mentoring and friendship. Thanks to him, I continued to play clarinet in college concert and marching bands, and in a community band to this day -- where I met my husband. I can honestly say my life would have been completely different without Mr. B's guidance, support, and encouragement. But it's clear that's true for so many of us, and I hope his family can find some comfort in that knowledge. He was a wonderful educator and a great man. My best wishes to all the Boandls.

Mr. B. made a great impression on many of us when he first arrived in Nazareth as the Jr. High marching band director. That was in 1979, and many of us still kept in touch with him.

Bill was a positive influence, role model, and mentor. He expected hard work, dedication, and excellence from his students. In return, we had fun, yet we learned and developed life long skills. Despite the endless hours of practice, competitions, football games, and parades - we were a 'family' and enjoyed all of it. Several of his band students have gone into teaching music and have their own marching bands -- what a tribute to Bill's influence!

Bill was well loved and respected. He will be greatly missed. Prayers and thoughts of strength for Bill's family.

Kim and Brad. I've been such a fan of your husband and father since we first met on a Campus Get aways trip. A wonderful man. I was always honored to have the chance to adjudicate Nazareth's Marching Band. You and your family are in our prayers.

We are saddened to hear of the loss of Bill, He was a leader for our daughter when we moved to Nazareth in 94 and she attributes a large measure of her sucess in a music career and in life to Bills' nurture and concern for her at that transitional time of her life. Dear Boandl family - Michelle, John and I are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. B. He was an incredible educator and so dedicated to his craft. He was teaching at its finest. I'm sure that he has touched the lives of thousand of people - students and families alike. It was an honor to bear witness to his transformation of the band performances from the beginning to the end of the band season. He expected nothing less than hard work and excellence from his students and they were happy to deliver. I know that a great part of the kids' strong work ethic is due to Mr. B. I desperately wanted to be on the Rifle Squad but I wasn't very good! Mr. Boandl gave me an opportunity but wouldn't let me be an active participant in competitions until I proved to him I could do better. I spent many hours practicing and making up my own routines. Because of Mr. Boandl's commitment and encouragement, not only did I succeed but I was the Rifle Captain my Junior and Senior years! To this day whenever I hear, "Ice Castles" it takes me right back to my high school years. WAHOOOO!!!

Being in Bill's band was the best part of high school. He was competitive (let's win this one!) but joyful in the pursuit. He was generous with his time and advice and ever loving toward his band family. He had a knack for bringing out the best in people. He built an organization of tremendous success and impact.

I have read applications for an annual marching band award since 1998. Every year, at least one senior - often several - would describe Mr. B. as their role model. "I pray everyday that I will grow up to be like him." "The strongest man I know." "The one person from my high school years that I will NEVER forget."

Bill was a mentor to me in school and a dear friend ever since. His loss is a great loss.

Kim & Family - Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. We have many fond memories of Mr. Boandl's wonderful leadership as he led the High School band. He certainly helped our daughter to have a great experience there.

Our condolences to the entire Boandl family. Mr Boandl gave Gregory a chance to be in Marching band as an 8th grader and it was the best thing to happen to Gregory. Thank you so much and our prayers sre with thew entire family.

I was so sorry to hear of Mr. Boandl's passing. My dad was band director prior to him and they taught together, so I knew Mr. Boandl my entire life and he was a great man. I wish I could offer some words that would make take away his family's pain, but I know that there are no such words. Time is the only thing that will help and in time, we don't forget, just learn to accept it a little more. As the family is going through this terrible process and grieving, please know how much of an impact Mr. Boandl made on so many lives and how much he was loved by all of us who were lucky enough to have had him as a teacher or band director.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Boandl family. I cherish all the great memories I have with the band and Mr. B. He had such a love and passion for music and his band members. God Bless.

I'm sorry to hear about mr B's passing. He was a great person and an inspiration to many. I didn't enjoy school much but I loved doing anything that included doing anything with mr. B.

Kim and family, you are in our thoughts and prayers as we think back to all the fond memories of Nazareth Band and BandParents. Mr Boandl was a one-in–a-million person whose leadership and encouragement helped shape our daughters' value systems during their HS years. For this our family will be eternally grateful. Kim, Brad, Becky, and the entire family - I am truly sorry to hear of Bills passing and you all are in my thoughts during this difficult time. I know how special he was to you as a husband, father, brother, uncle, and son. Thank you for sharing him with so many people over the years. My family sends it's deepest condolences.
