Bill attended Central Missouri University, in Warrensburg, Missouri, where he received his Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Arts Degrees. While there, he studied saxophone performance under world renowned saxophone player, Eugene Rousseau. Bill and Carolyn
married in 1966.
Bill served in the Army, from 1967 - 1970, in the Fifth Division Army Band at Fort Carson, Colorado. After his time in the military, he began his teaching career in Aurora, Colorado, where he taught for five years.
In 1975, he moved back to Colorado Springs where he taught at Holmes Junior High/Middle School for 25 years. He retired from public school teaching in 2000. He served as minister of music in several churches both in Aurora and Colorado Springs from 1967 - 1994.

My deepest sympathy in the passing of Bill. Mr. Callen, as he was most often to me, was a wonderful neighbor and my friend. We met in 1975 when he moved into my neighborhood with his wife, Carolyn, and twin baby daughters, Kendra and Karen. I grew up with his girls, babysat, house sat, took flute lessons, and socialized frequently with the Callens. I remember that Bill and Carolyn often took walks after dinner and would stop by my family's house to talk. They are as dear to me as my own family. There are so many joyful and funny memories. I will always consider Mr. Callen a godly and positive influence in my life. I am very thankful for his friendship, his guidance, his example of faith and his prayers for me. He will be greatly missed!
I pray for my friends, Carolyn, Kendra and Karen: may they experience God's abundant grace, peace and strength in the days ahead.
