It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Patrick Flanagan of Colorado Springs, CO, at the age of 83. Bill passed away, at home, on June 16th 2022, after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his loved ones.
Bill was born and grew up in Chicago, Illinois where he attended Blue Island High School. It is there that he met the love of his life, Cynthia Gardner. Bill and Cindy married in August of 1957 and started a family. Bill worked numerous jobs in Chicago to support his family, including working on the railroad, scrap metal collection and many others.
In 1964 Cindy visited Colorado Springs, and fell in love with the city. When she returned to Chicago, she told Bill how beautiful it is and asked if they could load up the kids, and their belongings, and move. In 1965 the family moved to the west side of Colorado Springs, where their daughters were raised.
In 1966 Bill joined the Colorado Springs Police Department. While working for CSPD, he attended Regis University where he earned his Bachelor's degree. Bill continued his education at UCCS to earn his Master's degree in Criminal Justice. In addition to being a member of the CSPD, he was involved with many business ventures including laundry mats, car washes, video stores and more. Bill retired from the CSPD as a Deputy Chief in 1991.
Bill loved fishing, playing blackjack in Cripple Creek and Las Vegas, watching football and basketball, reading, and entertaining at his home in Mountain Shadows. Bill and Cindy hosted 4th of July parties every year as well as Super Bowl and Christmas parties. He also enjoyed watching the bighorn sheep, deer, fox, wild turkeys and other wildlife that frequents his home.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Lorraine Cullinan and Pat Flanagan, brother Joseph Pinto, and sister Diane Cullinan.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Cynthia, his sister Marge Nottleman, daughters Kim (Chris) Richardson, Doreen (Bill) Weber, Sharon (Bob) Fernandez, Kathleen (Mark) McGrath, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
As a husband, father and friend, Bill gave as much of himself as he possibly could. His generosity, wisdom, humor and commitment to his family and friends was beyond admirable. He was loved by all who knew him and will live on in our hearts forever.
A memorial service for Bill will be held on Thursday, July 7th at 11 a.m. at New Life Church, 11025 Voyager Pkwy, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80921.
