William Gillespie Obituary

April 6, 1957-February 3, 2008. William Robert "Bill" Gillespie, 50, died unexpectedly on February 3, 2008 in Colorado Springs; he worked diligently for Waste Management for over 30 years. Bill was born on April 6, 1957 in Symrna, Tennessee to Donald and Gail Gillespie. During his childhood Bill lived in many states and in Turkey where, as a Boy Scout, he accomplished the inter-continental swim from Asia to Europe. Bill came to Colorado Springs when his father retired in 1973, and attended Coronado High School. In addition to being on the swim, baseball, soccer and football teams, Bill met and fell in love with Beth Branson; the two married 32 years ago and never looked back. Bill continued to remain active in sports and he especially loved skiing with his family. He was a decent, honorable, honest, caring and loving husband, father and friend who was a loved and respected by all who knew him. Bill is survived by his loving wife Beth; son Ryan; daughters: Teresa and Laura; parents Donald and Gail; Brother James and numerous extended family members and friends. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 8, 2007 with Funeral Services on Saturday the 9th at 4:30 p.m., both at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home.

We all know that Bill was a real "gem". There wasn't a nicer guy around. He will be deeply missed by his Coronado Class of 1975 friends. Beth, kids, and the rest of Bill's family, we ask that God hold you close to him and help to ease your pain. Just hold all of your cherished memories of Bill in your heart always and a part of him will always be with you. You are all in my prayers and the prayers of many others. Much, much love to all of you.

When I think of Billy I think of that wonderful smile that he was always willing to share with everyone. He was a kind man and a wonderful person. It saddens me to think that we will never see him again, but I feel truly blessed to have known and to have worked with him. People like Billy make this world a much better place. Billy we will never forget you. To Beth and the rest of the family, thank you for sharing this awesome man with all of us. I will pray that you find comfort in the words that you receive from all the people that knew and loved him. May God Bless you all and comfort you in this time of loss.

From a coworker to a coworker is how I knew Billy. I will always remember him wearing a smile. Even on bad days.

I worked with Bill at Waste Management for almost two years. He always managed to have a smile on his face no matter what when he came into the office. My dad Steve Vallejos worked with him for 15 years and has always said nothing but good things about him. I send my condolences to the family and friends that lost such a wonderful man.

When I think of Billy I see that trademark smile and shake of his head. I defy anyone to think anything other than the fact that Billy was one of the best human beings around. He NEVER said anything bad about anyone and was always there to help out. Billy left this world a better place than when he entered it and the world is a bit emptier with him gone.
