William Kisch Obituary

William (Bill) Kisch, age 84, passed away peacefully December 12, 2013, surrounded by his loving and adoring family. He was born in West Bend, Iowa on July 3, 1929.

William was preceded in death by his parents William and Clara Kisch, his step-father Babe Hogan, and his brother Robert Hogan. He is survived by his sisters Donna Johnson and Marilyn Cannistra, his brother Gary Kisch, his daughters Marilyn Kisch, Pam Travnicek, Karen Varsolona, Renee Hamalainen, and Angela Riemer, 8 beloved grandchildren, and 8 cherished great grandchildren.

William joined the Navy in 1948 and began a military career that spanned 20 years and saw him stationed from Connecticut to Hawaii. After retiring from service in 1968 he earned his Master's degree in Education from the University of Iowa. He finished his second career teaching special education students in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He then moved to Colorado and volunteered in the Buena Vista education system before heading to Colorado Springs to be closer to family.

In Colorado Springs he became very involved at Memorial Hospital, volunteering in blood drives and training junior volunteers. He also enjoyed traveling North America to ski, gamble, and attend elder hostels to pursue his life-long love of learning.

But the most important love of his life was his family whom he deeply cherished. He leaves a legacy of love that his family will always treasure.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Carol and Eileen with Pikes Peak Hospice.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00am, Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Memorial Gardens, 3825 Airport Rd. in Colorado Springs, CO.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice in celebration of Bill Kisch, 2550 Tenderfoot Hill Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80906.

Marilyn, Pam, and Karen,
I'm hoping you remember me and get this long delayed message. I guess we were teenagers the last time I saw you was before you moved to Hawaii then Colorado. I've been thinking of you lately and wondering about my long lost cousins. I'm still in Texas but in the Houston area. None of the family is left in Corpus or Freer now. My email is [email protected]. My Facebbok is under "Donna Hull-Bever Morgan". I hope they forward this to you and we can get in touch again.

Marilyn, I was unable to be at Bill's funeral. I thought a lot of Bill, he did so much for Memorial as a volunteer. I will miss him.

I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I worked with him (for many years) when he was a volunteer at the Memorial Hospital Blood Bank. He was such a great guy! Cheerful, reliable and so persistent. I admired his love for family; how he took in a grandson, etc.

I am thankful to have known him and glad to have seen him last August.

My deepest sympathy to his daughters and grandchildren. I know he loved and appreciated you so much.
