William James Offutt died peacefully on September 20, 2023. He was surrounded by his family, overlooking the mountains of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Nancy (Perham) Offutt. He is also survived by his brother John Offutt and his wife Elizabeth.
William was the doting father of seven surviving children, Christine Offutt, Andrew Offutt and wife Janet, Stephen Offutt, Jeanette Lindt and husband Calvin Lindt, Patricia Gilbert and husband Joel Gilbert, Marc Offutt and wife Donna, Michael Offutt and wife Lolly.
He is also survived by his adored 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
William was born in Jamaica, New York, the second of three sons on January 2, 1932, to William Bernard Offutt (deceased) and Emily Marie (Prochaska) Offutt (deceased). He is predeceased by his brother Warren Offutt.
William graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and attended the University of Notre Dame hoping to play football. When an injury sidelined him, he changed his focus to physics and graduated in 1954. He began his career as an engineer at Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford, Connecticut where he wooed and won the heart of Nancy Mae Perham. They were married in January 1958 and resided throughout the East Coast until 1973 when they moved the family to Colorado Springs.
William's life was devoted to his family and his faith. "Bill" and Nancy enjoyed sports and the outdoors. Their child-rearing years were spent attending school functions and creating family togetherness by spending summer vacations camping and winter vacations skiing. In their retirement years, Bill and Nancy stayed active by hiking, canoeing, camping, skiing, and visiting sites all over the western United States as well as Canada and Europe.
After his retirement, Bill was able to fulfill his love of children and teaching as a volunteer teacher assisting students from kindergarten through middle school at Divine Redeemer Catholic School.
Bill was a devout Catholic, dedicated to the Virgin Mary as an intercessor. He had lifelong faith and trusted God to always be with him and his family. Throughout his life, he frequently recounted moments where he felt the hand of God lifting the weight of troubles and interceding with guidance and comfort for his family.
Bill, his clever sense of humor, his inventive spirit, and how deeply he cherished his family is missed and mourned by all his loved ones.
A celebration Mass will be held at Divine Redeemer Church in Colorado Springs at 10:00 in the morning on September 29, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to Life Network in Colorado Springs, (https://www.elifenetwork.com/donate) or the charity of your choice.

Papa Bill assisted in my 2nd grade classroom at Divine Redeemer for Science. He enjoyed our hands on labs. All of my students and I loved Papa Bill and his wonderful stories. I remember an elevator story about meeting his beloved Nancy! Prayers for all of us left behind -May perpetual light shine upon Bill!
