Just watched the documentary Above The Best and the respect and admiration expressed by those who served with SSG Vile show the man and hero he was. He was very good at what he did. May he rest in peace. A true American hero and the country thanks him for his duty and sacrifice.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Vile Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. I worked on the same base as SSG Vile in Afghanistan.

I am the President of the Central Texas Fallen Heroes Memorial Association. We have constructed a memorial in Killeen, Texas honoring the Soldiers from Central Texas and Ft. Hood ( and those who served with Ft Hood units), who died in support of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our memorial consists of a large black granite stone with the Soldiers names on one side and their picture forever etched into the granite on the other side. We dedicate a new stone each year. We would like to extend to you the opportunity to provide a picture of your choice of SSG Vile to be included on the memorial. Otherwise, we will use a picture found online that is suitable for etching into the granite. This project is at no cost to you and is done as a way to forever memorialize SSG Vile and other Soldiers from this area.

If interested, please contact me at [email protected] . You can also view our web page at www.centexfallenheroes.com

God Bless You!

To the Vile Family and Heather. I have no words to express the loss to you. I knew SSG Vile and served with him on this tour. I was his team NCO. I just left in late JAN 2009 after two years in Afghanistan. My heart is crushed at his passing.
I am so sorry that I could not make it to Arlington on that day. Just know my heart and prayers are with you. And SSG Vile will always be in my thoughts. He was a heck of a Soldier and a pleasure to have know and worked with. The world and our Army is less today without him....

To the parents and family, I offer my heartfelt sorrow for the death of your loved one. So many times we don’t understand why this has to happen to us but know that you aren’t alone. There are many who have also suffered the death of their loved ones and we know that you will get through the day one minute by minute. When my son was killed in action I thought the world would end but through connection with others who had gone through this terrible tragedy I found that I wasn’t alone. When and if you would like to reach out and talk, vent, cry or just know how to get through each minute of the day please contact me. You are now a Gold Star Family and as such you should know that many of us are here to help and listen. May God bless and comfort you each and every day.

William, I just wanted to say thank you for your brave and honorable service to a grateful nation. Like so many others you have volunteered to serve our country and protect the vary freedom America was built on. Please know William that you like so many other fallen brother and sisters in arms that you will never be forgotten and you are heroes to us all. My nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward also paid the ultimate price on 5/6/08 while on a routine patrol in Al Anbar Province as an MP. His unit was ambushed and came under small arms fire and he was taken from us. Not a day goes by that I do not think of him and all our brave heroes serving in our armed services. I stand tall and salute you William and will forever honor the memory of you along with my nephew. To the Vile family words cannot express enough the pain both our families now must endure and my prayer is that the memory of your brave hero carry you through each day as you cope with this tragic loss. Since the loss of my nephew I have written on every single legacy page of every fallen soldier and included a photo of my nephew. I encourage you to do the same to Aaron's page. I have done this to honor my nephew but to let you know your loved one is not alone and my nephew is with him and they are now in God's gracious hands waiting for us to join them one day. From the bottom of my heart please except my sincere condolences and may the memories of your Hero carry you through each day for he will never be forgotten!

I am the Mom of a Soldier who is currently deployed to Iraq out of Ft. Drum and a Marine. When a servicemember is lost it is a loss for the whole military family whether we knew them or not.
I never really had the pleasure of meeting Bill, but he was a good friend to my sons Justin(our Marine) and Shane White who met him through the Redline Car Club. I know his passing has left a hole in their hearts and was quite a shock to say the least. My Husband also enjoyed playing with Bill and our boys on Xbox live. I remember many a nights of them harassing each other back and forth while playing. They would have me rolling over their conversations.
In Bill's honor Shane will be organizing a motorcycle run/cruise in here in Watertown, NY. It is the least we can do to honor a true American Hero who was the true epitome of a Soldier that truly believed in his country and his job. Bill will always be in my heart and he will never be forgotten. We can't be in Arlington on the 21st but we will be there in our thoughts.

Follow The Rainbow To Heaven.
===========================================

A Soldier had die out on the
battlefield;

Broken hearts are weeping For
Them,

But take comfort of knowing
that God had sent Them a
rainbow from heaven;

The Souls of the Soldiers
have gone to there home
in heaven,

Our Loved One's has follow
God's lovely rainbow in the
sky;

All the way to the end of the
sky.

That leads all the way to the
other end of the Lord's
house in heaven,

So just keep on praying and
trust that God will send us
that same rainbow in the sky;

Where Our Loved One's are
waiting For You and For Me at
the end of the rainbow in
heaven.

To William's grieving family, fiancee, and friends, Please accept my deepest sympathies on behalf of all grateful Americans. I have not lost a loved one in war, so I cannot say "I know how you feel"...nor that "I knew him well", or to "contact me". But I can tell you that you all will be forever in my heart and my prayers. Everything else you already know; that he is a hero... that those who risk their very lives for the freedoms of others are angels on earth... that he is safe with the Lord, and that one day we will all be together again.

May 16, 2009

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

Final Roll Call

Did you hear the sad news today?
S/Sgt. William Vile, a brave American Soldier has passed away.
Called by the Supreme Commander over all.
Today he has made his final roll call.

Come Brothers-In-Arms; let us reverently bow and pray
For our valiant comrade, who has fallen this day.
We’ll drape his casket with a banner of beautiful hues,
Those glorious American colors: red, white and blue.

That star spangled banner he gallantly fought to defend,
Unyielding and undaunted, he fought to win.
He fought bravely and he fought his very best.
Now the Supreme Commander grants him, “eternal rest.

With dignity and honor, we’ll commit his body to the ground,
The bugler will sound “Taps” and we’ll fire the volley rounds.
The final military honors we’ll render somberly and ever so sadly;
“Old Glory” we’ll solemnly precisely fold and reverently give to his family.

Each Memorial Day we will recall William’s name,
And attest that his supreme sacrifice was not in vain;
For this lasting legacy he gave to all generations;
“It’s honorable to respect our flag and to defend our great nation.”

So close ranks fellow warriors, for our ranks are thinning.
We must keep on fighting and keep on winning.
With pride and honor we’ll march and stand tall,
And we’ll proudly - proudly - salute “Old Glory”
‘til we join William at our final roll call.

Farewell S/Sgt. William Vile - Be At Ease; Rest In Peace

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Army S/Sgt William Vile. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for William. And to William it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. William, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to William’s family and loved ones.

Father we entrust our brother William to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold William in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.

I met Bill years ago in Ft. Drum, though I never called him “Bill” then. He was “Soultrain” to us, because he liked to get his groove on and was actually fairly good at it. I remember him and his room mate John helping me paint my new apartment so I could get moved in quicker. My boyfriend was in Iraq at that time and I really appreciated their help. Bill was a very kind and caring man with a mischievous smile that I’ll never forget. He will be missed dearly by all those who had the privilege of knowing him!

Although I know that there are simply no words that could give you, the family and his friends, any comfort at this time, I would like to offer you my most sincere condolences. Bill was a wonderful man! He will be missed and kept close at heart, always!

To Heather:
More than anyone do I know what you are going through right now! The boyfriend I was referring to above, became my fiancé and we too had plans to get married after his Afghanistan deployment. He was KIA 21 June 2006!
Please know that you don’t have to do this by yourself. It helped me a lot to have someone that met the same fate as I did and I just want you to know that I am here for you!! Please contact me if you’d like!! I’ll be waiting to hear from you!

With sincere sympathy
