William Willie Obituary

William "Bill" Willie, Jr., 71, a lifelong resident Colorado Springs, passed away at his home on March 30, 2016. Bill was born on June 1, 1944 to the late W. Henry Willie, Sr. and Audrey (Caton) Willie in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He graduated from William J. Palmer High School in 1963 and attended college in Pueblo. Following college, Bill worked as a manager at Sears for seventeen years. He then worked at Acorn Petroleum for ten years and retired from Home Windows after five years of employment.

In his spare time, Bill enjoyed hot air ballooning, tinkering and welding, traveling (especially to Jamaica!) and working on metal sculptures as he was a wonderful artist. Bill was a volunteer firefighter for the Stratton Meadows Fire Department and was also one of the founding members of Colorado Springs High School Palmer Alumni Association. Bill volunteered on the refueling crew for the Colorado Balloon Classic for several years and was an active member of the Colorado Hill Climbing Association and the Pikes Peak International Hill Climbing Association where he worked in various capacities.

Bill is survived by his loving spouse of over 20 years, Beth Yates. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, LeRoy Willie.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. A reception will follow at the Skybox Lounge, 2102 East Bijou.
