Willie Canady Obituary

SSG Willie J. Canady, U.S. Army (Ret.), age 79, a Colorado Springs resident since 1961, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the Pikes Peak Hospice Residence. He was retired from the United States Army and after 20 years with Joy Manufacturing Company. Willie Jack Canady was born on February 3, 1930 in Novice, Texas to the late Harry and Cleo (Davis) Canady. He served his country for more than 20 years in the Army and was stationed for three tours in Korea, two tours in Germany and all over the U.S. He married Elise Charlotte Maier on June 19, 1955 in North Bergen, New Jersey. Mr. Canady was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and enjoyed camping and traveling. He is survived by his loving wife: Elise; his brothers: Warren (wife, Robbie) Canady of Midland, Texas; and Gerald Canady of Walnut Creek, California. He is also survived by his sister: Sandra (husband, George) Leamons of Austin, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Willie was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Herman and H.D. Canady and two sisters: Stena Mitchell and Doris Rogers. A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Funeral Services will take place at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 846 E. Pikes Peak Avenue. A reception will follow the services at the church. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 2:30 PM on Wednesday at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado; Staging Area "B."
