Wilma Richie Obituary

Wilma Glee Richie, age 70, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 13, 2005. She was a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado since 1995. Mrs. Richie was born in Vici, Oklahoma, on January 6, 1935 to Homer and Golden Smith. She graduated from Bethany Nazarene College in 1957 and earned her Master of Education degree from East Texas State University in 1975. For nearly 40 years, she taught in public school systems in Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, and Kansas. She specialized in educating children with learning disabilities. On June 2, 1955, Wilma was united in marriage to Rev. Charles E. Peters of Metz, Missouri. Over the course of their 30 year marriage, Rev. and Mrs. Peters pastored Churches of the Nazarene in Texas, Colorado, and Kansas. Rev. Peters preceded Wilma in passing on May 29, 1985. While teaching in Liberal, Kansas, Wilma was united in marriage to Rev. James W. Richie on May 30, 1992. Rev. and Mrs. Richie retired in Colorado Springs in 1995. Rev. Richie preceded Wilma in passing on December 23, 2004. Throughout her adult life, Mrs. Richie led and participated in many different ministries through the local church. Her interests included reading, playing the piano, and enjoying the natural beauty of Colorado. She was dearly loved by her family and friends. Mrs. Richie is survived by three children from her first marriage: Denise Wolf of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Debra Myers of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Mark Peters of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four grandchildren; and a brother, Ken Smith and his family of Woodward, Oklahoma. A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Colorado Springs at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2006. A graveside service will be held at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Vici, Oklahoma at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2006.

So sorry to read the obituary in the paper this morning. My husband and I taught with Wilma for several years in Calhan. She was a fine person and a well respected teacher.
