Yoshiko Jackson Obituary

Yoshiko "Toni" Tamura

Jackson

February 27, 1929

March 14, 2022

Born in Nishinomiya, Japan, Yoshiko passed away peacefully at home with family members at her side. She was treasured by her family and friends as a loving, fiercely determined role model with a remarkable life story which took her from Japan to Texas, Hawai'i and finally, Colorado in 1963. She overcame great obstacles in her younger years to become a genuinely independent and successful woman. She was known as Toni to some of her friends and co-workers at the Broadmoor Lake Terrace Lounge, where she worked for many years. More recently, she was a charmingly energetic fixture at the YMCA in Colorado Springs, then Denver, and for over 55 years, a member of Soka Gakkai International (SGI), a lay buddhist organization. Yoshiko was a marvel with a sewing machine. She danced beautifully, read avidly, and was adored by everyone she met.

She is survived by her husband, Laurence, children Patricia Houlton (Gray), Roy Brunson (Carol), Beverly Brunson (David Thompson), Michael Ringler (Shara Kaplin), and grandchildren Alyson and Lauren Godbey, and Yoshiko, Keiko and Roy Brunson Jr. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to SGI https://portal.sgi-usa.org/portal/contribution.

To the family of Yoshiko Tamura Jackson, I share in the memory of your beautiful wife, mother, and grandmother. Beverly, Roy, and David are highly regarded at the University of Colorado. If not for Mrs. Jackson, that relationship would not have been possible. Godspeed to her loved ones.
