The other day while visiting my home and past employment at Glens Falls Hospital I brought up the name of Dr David Welch and how much respect I had for him. At that time early 1980's I took a position in occupational therapy and worked for him in that department.
He was a very caring doctor who was so kind not only to the patient but the families. He wanted to make sure that his department would closely with patients and their family. He always kept us on our toes. I enjoyed working for him so much I can imagine what a wonderful man he was for the people in Lake placid area.
My sincere sympathy to his wife and children. May God keep him in his Loving hands.

Mary...I am so sorry to hear the sad news of Dr. Welch´s passing. I have thought of both of you often over the years. The time I spent working at the office in Glens Falls left me with countless memories, with many of them being quite amusing. You and Dr. Welch were responsible for introducing me to cross-country skiing (biking and rollerblading as well!) I have always thought of cross-country skiing as a special gift because it has been an activity that I love and one that has brought a great deal of joy to both my family and me. I think Dr. Welch may have been the "Johnny Appleseed" of cross-country skiing. We are expecting a skiable snow here in Maine tonight and I will pay reverence to Dr. Welch when I am out on the trails.

Dr. Welch was a genuinely good man. His kind and compassionate treatment of his patients was an inspiration and his dedication to family and to his community was ever-present. His was certainly a life well lived.

I am praying for peace and comfort for you, Brian, Peter, Katie and all of your family members. My deepest sympathies to you all.

Dear Mary and family,
We remember with fondness the first couple winters we were on Pershing Road, and Dave encouraging our girls to try cross-country skiing. A few years later, we were in Placid for one of the girls to race, and there was Dave in a race of his own. His enthusiasm was infectious!

I was a nurse on the rehab unit at GF Hospital many years ago. Dr Welch was incredibly kind to his patients and the staff and was truly one of the wisest and most humble MDs I´ve ever met. My sincere condolences to his family and fiends.

I worked with Dr. Welch for many years in the PM & R department at Glens Falls Hospital. My first interaction with him was when he was working with a patient who had recently lost his leg. He was empathetic and provided "tough love" which this patient needed during his challenging time. As a therapist and later rehab director, I could count on his direct and candid communication on many different topics . He provided a solid foundation for rehabilitation in the community.
So sorry for your loss, Mary and family.

Dr. Welch, thank you for teaching me, at a young age, what true compassion and empathy were. You inspired me to treat the most vulnerable among us with the value and care they so deserve. To Mrs. Welch and family, I´m so sorry for your loss. May each of you find comfort in your memories of him.

So sorry to read of the sudden passing of your beloved, Dave. I will never forget the care he gave to my late, husband, Fred & the many home visits he made while living in the Adirondacks. I remember him very well, especially his caring touch and always willing to share his knowledge.

We are forever grateful to Dave and Mary for all they have done for our family and community. So many wonderful memories remain in our hearts from skiing to swimming, trips to Old Forge and Lake Placid and for Matthew to Sweden. Our prayers go out to Mary, Brian, Cate, and Peter and their loved ones.

My deepest sympathies at your loss. All my interactions with Dave over the years left me with warm feelings towards this gentle, caring, kind, competent man and caregiver. He was truly a unique man of the Adirondacks.

I worked with Dr. Welch and his wife Mary for several years when he left Glens Falls. I have many great memories of that time.

Mary, Thinking about you and your family. I have a wonderful memory of the time I took my very old, failing dad on an appointment to see Dave. He could not have been kinder. I also have several memories of you and Dave at Cole´s Woods ski races when our children were young.
