Maxine Renner Johnson, 91, passed away Monday at Donalson Care Center in Fayetteville.
She was born in Greene County to Albert and Lucy Renner, and spent most of her life in Greeneville.
Baptist by faith, she most recently attended Cedar Creek Church of God when her health allowed.
She retired from Greene Valley Developmental Center after many years of service.
A dedicated mother first and foremost, she lived a life of quiet strength and resolve, passing those traits on to her children. Although her last years were taken from her by dementia, she became more loving than ever. She will never again ask, "Where am I?" because she is finally and securely at home with the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Ralph Johnson; a sister and brother-in-law: Betty and Carson Bernard; brothers: H.A. (Darleen) Renner, Ralph Renner, and Robert Weems; her mother-in-law and father-in-law: A.W. and Arvada Johnson; a brother-in-law: Freddie Shaw; a niece: Ginger Lister; and a son-in-law: Mark Thomas, whom she loved as a son.
She is survived by her children: Connie (Rod) Holladay, Pam (Ron) Cantrell, Chris Thomas, and Ralph (Robin) Johnson; grandchildren: Suzanne (Brady) Porter, Sarah (Mike) Gibbons, Allison (Kevin) Pierce, Katie (Eric) Peak, Laura (Landon) Fletcher, Drew (Erin) Thomas, and Mischelle (Joe) Young, and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law: Helen Johnson and Louise Shaw; and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service, Afton. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in Jeffers Afton Chapel with the Rev. Sam Chaffin officiating.
Family and friends will leave in procession for interment at River Hill Cemetery.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family is especially thankful for the daily kindnesses of the entire staff of Donalson Care Center.
