Bonnie Lynn Walls Weddington
September 23, 1942 - February 8, 2025
Bonnie Lynn Walls Weddington, 82, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, with her daughter by her side. Bonnie was born in Landis, NC, to Roy Everett Walls and Vernice Vanderford Walls on September 23, 1942. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, the love of her life, high school sweetheart, Wayne Myers Weddington. After graduating from Landis High School, she enrolled at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, and earned a double Bachelor of Science Degree in Math and Science. There, she grew close with her suitemates and majorette teammates, and fondly remembered twirling fire batons as one of her favorite pastimes. She continued her education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, earning a Masters in Education. Wayne and Bonnie met in high school and continued to date throughout college. Although, there were many suitors; after relentlessly pursuing her, Wayne's persistence won her hand! Wayne and Bonnie were married on June 12, 1965.
Together for more than 60 years, they built a life in Greensboro, where they raised their two children, Lynn (Anna) and Emily Weddington Dalmata (Lawrence "LJ"). Bonnie's grandchildren, Cameron and Madelynne, were a true joy in her life, and she loved spending time with them, supporting their interests, shopping, taking beach trips, and creating lasting memories.
Bonnie dedicated over 40 years to teaching, starting at Proximity Junior High and then on to Grimsley Senior High School in Greensboro. She retired twice, but her passion for teaching never waned. Bonnie's impact on her students was immeasurable, and she was known for her dedication to their success. Generations of students benefitted from her passion in the classroom. She also remained active in the GHS community, substituting, attending countless school events, joining the teachers for after school social time, and coaching GHS women's tennis with Wayne and Emily. She devoted her life to teaching and her family. At home, her children saw her educational passion and support. She was a wonderful wife, mother, friend, and grandmother! She was always there to encourage her children at every game, match, and school event. Her passion and love for her children was obvious and infectious; we heard it loudly on every sports sideline!
A talented seamstress, Bonnie lovingly crafted clothing for her children and home décor, skills she learned from her mother. Her strong bonds with her college friends, fellow teachers, and family friends enriched her life. She was an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary organization for women educators.
Bonnie is survived by her two cousins and their families. While we take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with Wayne, her absence leaves a void that will be deeply felt and we will forever cherish the memories we shared. Bonnie's love, kindness, and enthusiasm for life will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 17, 2025, at 12 p.m., followed by a celebration of life service at 1 p.m., at Hanes-Lineberry, 515 North Elm St. Greensboro, NC 27401. Following the service, she will be buried at Westminster Gardens, next to her love, Wayne.
