Jay Davis Obituary

Jay Randall Davis, 46, of Danville, VA passed away peacefully from this Earth on October 16, 2025 at Sovah Health – Danville. He was born in Danville on February 8, 1979 to James Randall Davis and Kathy Lynn Waters Davis.

Jay graduated from George Washington High School in 1997. While there he participated in stage band, the Marching Eagles and symphony orchestra. He furthered his education at Averett College in Business and Global Marketing, graduating in 2001. He was a member of the Zeta Zi Chapter of the Pi Kappa Phi. He was a mentor to the young men, a foundation donor and served as a regional governor for the Roanoke Valley area. Jay sponsored several dinners for Pi Kappa Phi's Push America-Journey of Hope. These cyclists rode across the country to build playgrounds and raise awareness for disabled people.

At an early age, Jay worked beside his dad in the family business, Davis Motor Sales as a salesman and buyer. His travels took him to numerous auto auctions on the east coast and bought cars for other dealers as well. He will be missed throughout the auto community. Jay shared a love of cars with his dad, especially Mustangs. A highlight of his young life, was meeting Carroll Shelby.

He donated to the Martinsville SPCA where his beloved "Shelby" came from. If you ever met Jay, you would not forget him. His outgoing personality and contagious smile made a lot of friends and business associates.

Jay is survived by his parents, and uncles, Jerry R. Davis and Keith L. Waters, of Danville, VA, and Louis Michael Rowland (Julia), of Virginia Beach, VA; a great uncle, Grover Elliott of Oak Ridge, NC and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Ola Meadors Davis, Jack and Margie Waters Rowland, Maxwell and Sandra Waters; a great aunt, Linda Elliott Buchanan; and his furry companion, Shelby, of 15 years.

The family would like to thank Dr. Belaji Desai and Dr. Sydney Harris and the medical staff at Sovah Health – Danville for the care of their loved one, Jay.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, Westover Chapel, 5858 Riverside Drive, Danville, VA 24541.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Danville Fire Department, Station 2, Danville Life Saving Crew or to the Martinsville SPCA.

Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel is respectfully serving the Davis family. Online condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.wrenn-yeatts.com.

Dear Randy and Kathy, my thoughts and prayers continue to go out to you in the loss of Jay. I fondly remember talking with Jay several times when I would stop by the dealership to visit. He was always very cordial, polite and friendly to me as we'd discuss cars and any other topics which may have come up. He was a good friend as well as a good man no questions and will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know him. May GOD hold you both close in his loving care during this very difficult time. Love and Prayers, Daryl

I remember seeing Jay in front of your house in his convertible years ago. He was so young and looked so cool driving down the street. I am so glad he got to enjoy so many things in his life. Even with the challenges he endured for the last several years, he kept busy and moving forward. He is an inspiration to me and others! Kathy Nester
