Joyce Whitford Judson Wynn, 84, of Marble Hill, Georgia, went home to God on August 7, 2025. She was born in the small farming community of Adams, New York to the late Holly F. Whitford and Helen Whitford Fassett.
Joyce grew up working on the family dairy farm in Rodman, New York. It's there she learned all about hard work. From milking cows, and harvesting potato fields, to helping in the extensive vegetable gardens, there was always work to do. Her father and mother taught her many of life's lessons and instilled values of honesty and respect that she never forgot.
Prior to escaping the harsh winters of the North Country, Joyce married James "Jim" Judson and soon they were making their way to Atlanta with their young son, Mark. Once arriving in the south, her career took her from owning a small record store in Atlanta's trendy Little Five Points to her time spent at Walter Scott Realty, then managed S&S Office Supply and Design which led her to her finally discovering her calling in the interior design field. For over 40 years, she had many opportunities to share her flair and love of design with many customers who soon became friends. She enjoyed building and designing homes and welcomed any challenges that came along.
Joyce enjoyed people and people enjoyed her. With an infectious smile, quickness to laugh and her genuine interest in many subjects, she was a joy to be around.
After the death of Jim, Joyce found an unexpected love with her second husband, David. Together or along with friends and family, they traveled to places they never thought they would see. When not working on a design project, traveling or enjoying dinner with their "Friday Night Friends" at Eagles Landing Country Club, she spent her time tending her flowers where she would trim, replant, talk to or threaten them. A day in the garden would often include her saying "one more chance or you are out of here!" Most times the flowers wised up and complied!
As much as Joyce loved being a mother to Mark, she never knew she could also share such a special love as when she became a proud Nana to Hadley, her only grandchild. It's a feeling she recently relived with the birth of her only great-grandson, Owen. Those who held a place in her heart knew how treasured they were. She is survived by her loving husband, David Wynn; son, Mark J. (Mary) Judson of Franklin, Tennessee; granddaughter, Hadley (Wes) McCrary of Franklin, Tennessee; and great-grandson, Owen Judson McCrary. She is also survived by her sisters, Dianne Jackowski of Cazenovia, New York and Carolyn (Leon) Gordinier of Mannsville, New York; brothers, Newell Whitford (Allita) of Cary, North Carolina and David Whitford (Joan) of Golden, Colorado as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joyce will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her, she was a true light in this world. We will carry her memory with us always and honor her with every tree and flower that is planted.
A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date.
