DECATUR - Russell Elmer "Russ" Lingard, 85, of Decatur, Ill., passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at his home.
A visitation will be held from 12 to 1:30 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2025, at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home with a graveside to follow at Graceland Cemetery, Decatur.
Russ was born September 14, 1939, in Wolfeboro, N.H., the son of Elmer Lingard and Doris Bushway Lingard.
Russ served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965 as an Aircraft Mechanic working on helicopters.
He worked as a brakeman and conductor for Norfolk and Southern before retiring in 2001 after 28 years of service.
Russ enjoyed taking care of his two cats, woodworking, attending auctions and working in his garden.
Russ is survived by his children, Ellen Robinson of Warrensburg, Ill.; Karen Mitzlaff of Cocoa, Fla.; Jim Lingard of Decatur; Cathy (Tim) Sidener of Illiopolis, Ill.; Lori Allyn of Cocoa; (Steve) Goodwin of Cocoa; 12 grandchildren, Ryan Robinson, Tiffany Morrison, Tanner Mitzlaff, Tessa Mitzlaff, Connor (Shelby) Lingard, Kaleb Lingard, Cole Lingard, Tim (Karon) Sidener, Jacque (Mike) Gendron, Jessica (Connor) Tetting, Madison Goodwin, Samantha Goodwin; 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; partner, Jan Collins; daughter, Jenny Goodwin; grandson, Roy Robinson Jr.
