Carolyn Loftin Noble

Carolyn Loftin Noble, 93, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, at Friends Homes at Guilford in Greensboro, NC. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Sallie Beal Loftin; her husband, Clifton Eugene Noble; and her sister, Dorothy Loftin Goodwin and her husband, William Shreve Goodwin of Apex, NC. She is survived by her two children, Steve Noble and his wife, Cindy of Winston Salem, NC., Gwendolyn Noble and her husband, Thomas Lint of River Forest, IL; and her four grandchildren, Leigh Noble of Winnipeg, Canada, Meg Van Staveren and her husband, Stefan of Cary, NC, Drew Noble and his wife, Hannah of Fuquay-Varina, NC and Mark Noble and his wife, Meredith of Hudson, NC. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Noelle and Henry Van Staveren, Lincoln and Keira Noble, and Raylan and Rowen Noble; and several nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was born on September 10, 1931, in Goldsboro, NC, and married Clifton Eugene Noble also of Goldsboro. She and Cliff lived in Elkin, NC from 1953 to 1960 and were members of First Baptist Church. Carolyn was in the choir, Women's Missionary Union (WMU) and she was president of the Elk Garden Club before moving to Greensboro, NC, where they lived from 1961 to 1972. She and Cliff were active members of Lawndale Baptist Church. Carolyn volunteered in many capacities including the adult choir, a children's Sunday School teacher, Pastor Search Committee, Life Journey Coordinator, and WMU President. Carolyn graduated from UNC-Greensboro in 1969 and taught in the Greensboro City School System for four years.
Carolyn and Cliff moved to Bristol, VA in 1972. After teaching in the Washington County School System for one year, Carolyn began volunteering in many organizations in Bristol. She was President, Treasurer, and Life Member of the Bristol Music Club; Secretary and Life Member of the Virginia Federation of Music Clubs; President and Life Member of the Bristol YWCA; President of the YWCA Women's Club; Tribute to Women Nominee, Distinguished Woman of Bristol YWCA; Member of the Board of Directors of Christian Woman's Club; President of Gibbons Study Club; and a member of Lowry Hills Garden Club. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Bristol, involved in choir, the Pastor Search Committee, and she was WMU Vice-President.
Carolyn and Cliff retired to Greensboro, NC in 1993 where they rejoined Lawndale Baptist Church. Carolyn was a member of the Sanctuary Choir and Voices of Experience Choir. She was WMU President and Sunday School Director of the adult department.
Carolyn was a Charter Member of the Wycliffe Bible Translators Association in Bristol and a member of the chapter in Greensboro. Carolyn was a member of the Board of Trustees of Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, VA for 19 years and she received an Honorary Alumna Award from Virginia Intermont College in 2000. She was a Life Member of the Friends of Campbell Library at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC, where her mother, daughter, granddaughter, and two nieces attended. She also served on the Board of Directors and she was a Life Member of the Friends of Jackson Library at UNC-Greensboro.
Carolyn lived a life of service to her family, church, and community and now she is resting peacefully.
A celebration of Carolyn's life will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Lawndale Baptist Church, 3505 Lawndale Drive, Greensboro, NC 27408. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the service at 11 a.m. in the church sanctuary. A brief graveside service will take place at Westminster Gardens Cemetery. Guests are invited for a reception and lunch with the family at Lawndale Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 N. Elm Street, Greensboro, NC 27401.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wycliffe Bible Translators Association, Friends of Campbell Library at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC, Friends of Jackson Library at UNC-Greensboro in Greensboro, NC or to the Alzheimer's Association.
