Norma Williams Stidham
January 1, 1931 - February 23, 2024
Raleigh, North Carolina - Norma Louise Williams Stidham, 93, a native of Wilmington, NC, passed away on February 23, 2024. She was born January 1, 1931, to the late Ralph B. Williams, Sr. and Bessie Sutton Williams and was the wife of Scott Filmore Stidham, Sr. Norma graduated from Salem College and was active in church and civic endeavors in Raleigh and Richmond, VA.
Norma was a member of Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, where she was involved with the United Methodist Women and enjoyed many wonderful friendships over the past 49 years. She served on the Board of the NC Museum of History Associates, was a co-founder of the Mordecai House Gift Shop, and worked on the membership drive of the North Carolina Symphony. Norma also was a member of the Raleigh Fine Arts Society and the Assembly Club. She was active in the Seed and Sod Garden Club, the Heritage Book Club, and the Joel Lane Questers International Antiques Club. She and Scott loved international travel, and she was fortunate to have visited all seven continents.
Norma was preceded in death by Scott, her husband of 63 years, her sister Esther Bryan of Lumberton, NC, and her brother Dr. Bertram Williams of Wilmington. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Lewis (Bill) of Wilmington; her son, Fil Stidham (Anna) of Raleigh; and her four grandchildren: Jackie Lewis Cox (Michael) of Savannah, GA, John Lewis (Alex) of Atlanta, GA, Laura Stidham McHale (Colin) of Atlanta, GA, and Sarah Stidham (Matt Koontz, fiancé) of Raleigh. Norma is also survived by her four great-grandchildren: Livie and Addie Grace Cox and Jack and Hope Lewis.
Norma's family would like to thank the friends and staff of The Cardinal at North Hills for their love and support throughout her illness. The family would also like to thank her wonderful caregivers: Anita, Annie, Benita, Grace, and Tameka.
A Memorial Service will be held on March 2, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, 2209 Fairview Rd. in Raleigh. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service. There will be a private burial for the family at Oakwood Cemetery.
