Roy Melvin Carr

September 5, 1938 - February 22, 2025

Roy Melvin Carr, 86, of Claremont, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory.

He was born September 5, 1938 in Rowan County to the late Glenn Miller and Daisy Lee Phillips Miller. Roy was a member of Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board. He was an active member of the NAACP and the Democratic party.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Louise Carr; and aunts, Bee Phillips and Peachnetta Bryant.

Those left to cherish his memory are sons, Michael Ray Reid and wife Annette Epps Reid of Waldorf, Md., Randy Melvin Carr of Lumberton; daughters, Lisa Micheal Carr of Winston Salem, Christy Carr Robinson and husband Lambert of Newton; grandchildren, Corrin N.F. Reid, Iesha Epps, Shandria Carr-Dooley (Andrae Dooley, Sr.), Dana Carr-Coleman (Anthony Coleman), Brandt Sutton, Bliss Zondruzelle Montora'e Carr, Zion D'Treise Zamar Robinson, Essence Zipporah Grace Robinson, De'Anthony Carr, Briana Carr, A'miah Coleman, and Anthony Coleman Jr.; great-grandchildren, Andraeia Dooley, Amira Dooley, Andrae Dooley, Jr., De'Carlo Cherry N'yah Rose Carr, Egypt Carr, Rain Carr, Fire Carr, Solar Carr, A'nayla Cherry, Neja'leja Cherry, Seven Cherry, Ashton Coleman and Cailyn Coleman.

A homegoing service to celebrate Roy's life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Claremont. Pastor Michael Tolbert Sr. will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will hold a quiet hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
