Dolores Osteen Obituary

Dolores Ann Osteen
10/22/1933 - 07/30/2025
Dolores Ann Osteen, affectionately known as "Dodie," was born October 22, 1933 and passed away peacefully in her Houston home on July 30, 2025 at the age of 91. The only daughter of Roy Vernon Pilgrim and Georgia Lee Case Pilgrim, she grew up in Baytown, Texas, graduating from Baytown Lee High School and the Lilly Jolly School of Nursing in downtown Houston. Dodie Osteen is best known for co-founding Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas in 1959 along with her husband, the late Pastor John Osteen, and as the mother of Lakewood Church senior pastor, Joel Osteen.
In addition, she is the author of three books: Healed of Cancer, a chronicle of her miraculous healing from metastatic liver cancer in 1981 when she was 48 years old, Choosing Life One Day at a Time, a 365-day devotional, and If My Heart Could Talk, a memoir of her life. Her books are translated into multiple languages and continue to be sold worldwide.
Dodie was well known and highly respected throughout the world in both the Christian and secular communities. Her compassion for others was unconditional and she was esteemed by government, business, and non-profit leaders, as well as journalists, athletes, and people from various faiths.
Throughout her life, Dodie Osteen served as a mentor to millions around the world, and as an encourager to anyone in need. A selfless servant of Jesus Christ and a woman of uncommon faith, she has passed down a legacy of courage and faith that will continue to inspire generations to come.
Dodie, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, is survived by her five children, Paul Osteen, MD and his wife Jennifer, Lisa Osteen Comes and her husband Kevin, Tamara Graff and her husband Pastor Jim Graff, Pastor Joel Osteen and his wife Victoria, and April Osteen Simons, nineteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Join us for a special memorial service celebrating Dodie's life and honoring her extraordinary legacy.
Friday, August 8th at 7PM CT (parking opens at 6PM CT) at Lakewood Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Dodie's memory with a gift to Lakewood Missions. Thank you for continuing her legacy of love and compassion.

I wish I would have had the privilege to see her again before she passed. It was strange that I thought of her and beloved John, the day before she passed. The next day, I saw the news. I am so sorry she is gone, for me and the family. She and her husband were a gift to my family and were so gracious to us. On behalf of the Barrera Family, I am the only one left, we will miss her so much. God Bless the Osteen's and Lakewood Church. Joel, I know she was proud of you, for sure, and your dad is even more proud what you have accomplished for God. Thank you, much love, Jason.

I watched Mama Dotie for many years as the broadcast was being done. Her life speaks for itself; she served many people and prayed to Jesus also for their needs. God healed her more than once, and she survived, God has called his servant home. But those that have witnessed the love and compassion she had for so many we must continue in the faith and remember her in our heart.

A true woman of God, so gifted she remained humble and authentic. So many people have a story which they cherish and memory. Mine is special as well. I was in New York City when I received an invitation to a private reception with the Osteen family. This was so beautiful and ironic at the time was just a mile from the house on Mustang trail in Kingwood.
I honor her great legacy as a mother of Houston´s Lakewood Church. Her heart for people blessed and multitude the Osteen family remain in my thoughts and prayers, as they say farewell till that great gettin´ up morning on the sunny banks of sweet deliverance.

13 Years ago I met Ms. Dodie at Memorial Hermann Hospital in the room off of the garage. My Mother, a believer, and prayer warrior, had just passed away very unexpectedly. I saw Ms. Dodie, introduced myself, and told her what had happened. She immediately put her arm around me and prayed for me and my family. It was such an honor to get to meet her, and to have her pray with me. I will never forget how God put her there at that specific time and place!! Praying for your family to feel Christ's perfect peace.

Mama Dodie, You Are a light to the world. Your light will still be shining down on us from Heaven as we walk the path without you. They say it is not the day you were born that matters. It is the Life well lived in between. Let your Inspiration and positive spirit be shared by all. May your Love for all of us help us at Lakewood to find Peace. They Lined the streets of Gold waiting for you. I hope that I can continue to live my Legacy by your examples and Love you have shown me and my Family to pay it forward. Love you and miss you already.
