Martha Alice Evans Balusek, passed away peacefully, on May 18, 2025, in Huntsville, Texas. She was born in Houston on November 20, 1935, to George P. Evans Sr., an English professor at Sam Houston State University, and Martha Doak Evans, a professional architect in Huntsville. She was raised by her father and stepmother, Claire Carsner Evans, after her mother passed away. Martha graduated from Huntsville High School in 1953, earned her BFA in 1957 from the University of Texas at Austin, and received a Master's in 1969 from Texas Woman's University.
Martha spent her career teaching English in Refugio and Houston high schools and San Jacinto State University in LaPorte where she met her husband William "Bill" Balusek, an artist and art teacher. They retired to Huntsville in 1997, and enjoyed collecting and selling antiques, bridge, and travel.
Martha is survived by her brother George Evans, and his wife JoAnn of Denver, CO; niece Betsy Evans of Dallas, TX; nephew Scott Evans and his wife Carla of Greensboro, GA; and great-nephews Ben Evans (Ashlin) and Matt Evans (Eve).
A celebration of Martha's life will be announced at a later date.
