Jenifer Hughes Obituary
Middleton - On February 23rd, 2026, Jenifer Ann Hughes (formerly Stewart-Greene) mother, wife, friend, CNA, nurse and nurse practitioner, peacefully and painlessly left this world surrounded by her loving family at home. Jenifer never gave up the fight to live every minute of her life to the fullest and was probably trying to get her family to play one more game of pinochle, pool, or cards against humanity right up to the very end.
She will always be remembered for her sharp wit and snarky sense of humor, the way she loved fiercely with all her heart, the care, empathy and compassion she gave to her patients, and the grace and positivity with which she faced her disease.
If you were ever her friend, you were her friend forever. She always kept a part of your friendship close to her heart. No matter how far away or the last time she saw you, she still cared for you, and was cheering for you.
Jenifer spread her joy, happiness, jokes, and friendship equally from the maintenance crew, laundry services, cooks, bartenders, dishwashers, students, registration, lab, imaging, administrative assistants, waitresses, unit clerks (who are calmly running the entire department), techs, doctors, CNA's and especially the nurses. She was somewhat less appreciated by HR, the CEO, CMO, CFO, COO and the rest of the acronym crowd.
As proud as she was of becoming a nurse and nurse practitioner, her greatest joy was loving her daughters. She never felt like she gave them the time and attention they deserved, time lost working and going to school with the desire to give them a better life, but she loved them and wanted desperately to be a good mom with all her heart. "I enjoyed every minute of my life with you from toddlers to teens, to the beautiful young women and wonderful mothers you've become."
Jenifer is preceded in death by her wonderful mom Darlene Stewart who was the best most loving mom, human and role model for Christianity, kindness, generosity, and humor a girl could've been blessed with. Her grandpa Clyde Stewart who was her best friend, confidant, and partner in crime. He taught her to stand up for what she believed, drive a stick shift, shoot a gun better than the boys, ride a horse, vote democrat, play pinochle and cribbage and never tell grandma we spent the day at the long branch saloon. To her mother's dismay she turned out a lot more like her grandpa than was hoped. Grandma Ethel who instilled fiscal responsibility (and unwavering love and support even when she caught grandpa and I at the long branch saloon), Her hilarious grandpa Charlie who shared his wicked sense of humor, love of going fast and dangerous winter sports, and Grandma Lois who patiently taught her to cook for 20, but never measure anything or follow a recipe.
Jenifer is survived by her kind, patient and extremely stubborn father John Stewart, loving brother Jason Stewart (who only threatened to shoot her once and that was after she broke his nose the third time while mom was at church praying for their souls), and the love of her life, best friend and husband Jim Hughes. Her five wonderful and beloved daughters Krystal, Kaitlin, Brianna, Cassidy and Ashly. Alex, her favorite kid. Her daughters' boyfriends, Joe and Pride. And five amazing grandchildren Aiden, Tristan, Alice, January and Jaidyn. A large extended family, nieces, nephews, cousins and an uncle. Her wonderful Hughes family, who welcomed and loved her with open arms and hearts. Her bonus Aunts Ginny and Peggy, and Cousin Lisa. Her best friend for almost forty years and honorary sister Debbie Kidder. So, so many incredible friends loved like family, and too numerous to count.
"My only regret in life is not having time to love you longer."
Jenifer's celebration of life will be March 21st, 2026 1:00 pm, at the Kaley Center at West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell, Idaho.
