Gary Baumgartner Obituary
Gary Lee Baumgartner 71, a friend to everyone he ever met, was reunited with his daughter, Julia on the other side of the veil on July 30, 2025.
Gary was born on April 1, 1954 to Robert Henry Baumgartner and Frances Martha Tauscher, in Pocatello, Idaho. Gary was the third child, having an older brother, Bob and sister, Kathy. He was always our April Fool and made people laugh.
At an early age he started off golfing. His mother ran the café at the Highland Golf Course, giving him the opportunity to be under the wings of the golf pros.
Gary met Alice Wyrouck in 8th grade at Alameda Junior High. They started dating at the beginning of their junior year at Highland High School.
Gary married his high school sweetheart, Alice Wyrouck. To this union they had two beautiful daughters, Julia Ann and Frannie. They lived in Idaho Falls for 10 years before moving to Blackfoot when Gary bought Ed's Paint and Glass from his uncle, Ed Tauscher, today known as Blackfoot Paint and Glass.
Gary loved golfing and had many, many friends at the golf course where he was known as "Bummy" or "Jerry Bumstarter". He won the City of Blackfoot Men's Championship Golf Tournament in 1986 and the George Von Elm in 2003.
Gary was active in Bonneville Civitan Club in Idaho Falls, Idaho where he was president from 1978-1979. He was also president of the Yellowstone Daycare Center project 1979-1980. After moving to Blackfoot, Gary became active in the Chamber of Commerce for many years and became the chamber president in 1992. Gary was also involved in Prospector's, Urban Renewal Agency, Men's Golf Association, and the 300 club at the Blackfoot Golf Course. One of Gary's favorite was being on the Board of Directors for Bingham Memorial Hospital and the Bingham Healthcare board. Gary served everywhere he went. He earned Outstanding Young Man of America in 1980, The Best Foot Forward on January 25, 1999.
Gary joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on October 11, 2014, as he wanted to be united with his "3 girls" (Alice, Julia, and Frannie) for all eternity. He cherished his membership in the church and served with his heart, might, mind, and strength in many callings to show his dedication to his Heavenly Father and to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. Gary had a light about him and took it wherever he went brightening every place he visited.
Gary is survived by his high school sweetheart, Alice, his daughter Frannie (Ryan) Crumley, a sister, Kathy Chatterton, and four grandchildren, Cole Lindsay, Ellie Lindsay, Sydney (Jake) Sutherin, and Lydia Crumley. He is also survived by one great grandchild, Spencer Sutherin. He is also survived by many other family and friends. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Frances Baumgartner, his brother, Bob and a daughter, Julia Baumgartner Lindsay.
