Gerald Benjamin Milford, 87, of Abbeville, husband of Earlene Spearman Milford, died Thursday, July 3, 2025, at his home. He was born in Abbeville County to the late William Albert Milford and Mertie McClain Milford.
A 1956 graduate of Abbeville High School, Gerald furthered his education at Greenwood College of Commerce, Class of 1960. He honorably served his country in the SC National Guard - Abbeville Unit with the 178th Field Signal Artillery Battalion.
For 20 years, Gerald was employed as a Division Manager at Riegel Textile Corporation, where he managed operations at the Ware Shoals, McCormick, Johnston, Whitmire and Fork Shoals plants. He also owned and operated Milford Dairy Farm and Beef Cows. Gerald was not only a devoted professional but also an active participant in civic responsibilities. In 2016, he served as the Director of the Greenwood Red Cross. Gerald also served as Director of the Cattlemen's Association and President of the SC Holstein Association. His leadership extended to his community as a member of the Abbeville County Council where he was Chairman for eight years, the Upper Savannah Council of Governments and the Donalds & Due West Water Authority. In May 2019, Gerald was inducted into the Abbeville County Hall of Fame an honor which was well deserved.
He attended Gilgal Methodist Church, where he served faithfully as Treasurer for many years. Gerald will be remembered for his love of family and community. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work and service that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 60 years, Earlene; two daughters, Susan M. Glenn (Steve) of Abbeville and Cynthia Moultrie (Billy) of Marietta Ga; brother, Sam Milford (Sandy) of Abbeville; and four grandchildren, Bryson Glenn (Maggie), Jake Moultrie, Dawson Glenn and Ben Moultrie.
A celebration of Gerald's life will be 2:00PM, Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Gilgal Methodist Church, 376 Gilgal Church Road, Abbeville, SC with Rev. Jason Taylor officiating.
