WILLIAM REYERS Obituary

REYERS COL. WILLIAM FREDERICK, II March 11, 1947 - July 22, 2025 Colonel William Frederick Reyers II, U.S. Army (Retired), of Woodbridge, VA, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, at the age of 78. Born March 11, 1947, in Philadelphia, PA, to William and Madeliene Reyers, William (Bill) grew up in Cherry Hill, NJ, and attended Bishop Eustace Preparatory School (Pizza Prep) in Pennsauken, NJ, where he played football, basketball, and competed on the chess team. In 1965, Bill met the love of his life, Kathleen "Kathy" Mullen, while working at Howard Johnson's. Bill graduated from La Salle in 1969, and that same year was drafted into the Vietnam War, earning a Bronze Star. Bill and Kathy married in 1971 upon his return home. Bill earned his MBA from Temple University and began a 28-year career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which took his family to Germany, Korea, Arizona, Kansas, Alabama, and Virginia. In 1991, he served as battalion commander during Operation Desert Storm, earning a second Bronze Star. He retired as a full Colonel following his service under the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon. He continued to serve his country for two more decades in the private sector, working with SAIC and L3, before officially retiring in 2019. Bill was a devout Catholic, a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, and a lover of word puzzles, trivia, dad jokes, playing cards, his John Deere tractor, and a well-done steak with a Maker's Mark. His children and grandchildren were the lights of his life, and his devotion to Kathy was his favorite pastime. In retirement, Bill lived his best life: watching the Eagles win their first championship with his son and nephew at Superbowl LII; seeing his favorite bands live, including Jimmy Buffet, the Eagles, Chicago, and Elton John; celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary in the Bahamas; touring the Maker's Mark distillery; visiting Disney World with his granddaughters, and soaking up the Rehoboth Beach sun every summer at "Pop Pop's Beach House." He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Madeliene Reyers; in-laws Mary and James Francis "Bud" Mullen; sister Louise Nash; brothers-in-law David Nash, Robert Spires, Peter Brusoe, Alex Mastoris; and nephew Evan MacAdams. He is survived by his beloved wife Kathy Reyers; daughter Courtney Reyers and her husband Daniel Nguyen; daughter Katy Reyers; son William F. Reyers, III and his wife Meredith; and grandchildren Caroline, Mallory, and William Frederick Reyers, IV. He is also survived by his siblings Judith Spires, Mary Brusoe, Robert Reyers and his wife, Johanna; sister-in-law Patricia Mastoris; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service for the Colonel will take place on Friday, August 1, at 11 A.M. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 12975 Purcell Road, Manassas, VA 20112. A Burial with Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Colonel Reyers's honor may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

May he rest easy as we continue with the watch. He was my Battalion Commander during Desert Shield/Storm. I was his driver after we came back to Ft. Rucker.

Sara and I are saddened to hear of the Colonels passing. He took the battalion to Iraq and back. We were great full to have his combat experience in Desert Storm. My thoughts and prayers are with you Kathy and your family.

Aunt Kathy, Courtney, Daniel, Katy, Billy, Meredith and family:
Uncle Bill was an amazing man. I loved our long talks about history, politics, current events, family, and so much more. Every class I work in the battle of Thermopylae because of him.

From going to Eagles Games (Fly Eagles Fly) to Philly Games, to events at the house. Uncle Bill was a glue that kept family together.
The greatest passion and joy was hearing him talk about his children and grandchildren.

I am blessed to have had him as an uncle, a Godfather, and a friend.
Please know you all are in my prayers.
