ZOFIA KUROWSKA Obituary

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mom, Zofia Kurowska, on January 6, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Zbigniew; and leaves behind her daughter, Aleksandra; son, Tom (Randi); her only grandson, Luke Barrie (Laura); and great-grandson, Liam. Dr. Zofia Kurowska (nee Sobieszczanska) was born on January 9, 1924, in Kielce, southern Poland. She obtained her degree in dental surgery at the Akademia Medyczna in Poznan in 1953 and practiced as a dentist until her emigration. In 1956, she married Dr. Zbigniew Kurowski, who was the love of her life and her best friend. Together they had two children. Dr. Kurowska and family left Poland via London, England, in 1969. Originally, upon arrival they resided in New Brunswick; ultimately settling in Ontario in the 1980's. Following immigration, Zofia devoted her time and energy to her beloved Zbysio and family. Both Zofia and Zbigniew were enthusiastic travellers and visited all but one continent. Being passionate about music, they attended countless operas, symphonies and musicals in Poland, Canada, and the US while vacationing at their second home in Florida, as snowbirds. Dr. Kurowska was an intelligent, independent woman. She was ambitious, determined, and resourceful. She left behind her extended family for better opportunities for her nuclear family in Canada, and by doing so, relinquished her own interests. The family wishes to thank the staff of Copernicus Lodge and St. Joe's Palliative Care Unit for their excellent care and compassion. A private funeral will be held on January 30th with interment to follow.
