Blanche David Obituary

Blanche Homsey David, born on September 8, 1929, in Depew, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 17, 2025. Blanche lived a life full of faith, warmth and laughter. Known for her compassion, tireless work ethic, sense of humor and resilience, she had an unwavering dedication to her family, friends, church and community.

In 1936, Blanche and her family moved to Oklahoma City, where she developed a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life, which she carried throughout her 95 years. She graduated from Classen High School in 1948, then started her first jobs at her brothers’ companies, American Candy Co., where she took phone orders, and AMC, where she worked in the jewelry department.

She married Charles David in 1959, and they operated Big Daddy’s Package Store and Party Shop until the mid-1980s when Blanche founded Blanche’s Deli. Together Blanche and Chuck built a life filled with love, raising two daughters, Kimberly and Charleigh. The girls said, “Mom has been with us through thick and thin. From the passing of our dad to the birth of our children, our lives have been filled with nothing but unconditional love, nurturing and support.”

Blanche’s resilience was evident throughout her life, as she was both a breast cancer survivor and a survivor of the Oklahoma City Bombing. During the tragic event in 1995, she courageously helped rescue children from the day care facility at the YMCA, where she operated Blanche’s Deli.

Blanche’s life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her faith and community. A lifetime member of St. Elijah Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church and a member of St. Ignatius, she was an avid volunteer and active leader. She served as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, and was on the Jr. Guild committee that developed the Culinary Companion Lebanese cookbooks. She served as chair and kitchen chair of the annual bake sale. Her service and dedication were recognized when she was awarded the Genesis Award by St. Elijah for her remarkable contributions.

As a member and President of both the Bonne Heure Club and Ladies Aid, Blanche participated in many charitable endeavors including providing backpacks filled with school supplies and Christmas gifts to needy families.

In addition to her many accomplishments, Blanche was a talented Lebanese chef who delighted her family and friends with her culinary creations. She was also an enthusiastic and skilled poker player, bringing fun, strategy, and camaraderie to games with her grandchildren. A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, she took immense pride in her family, finding her greatest joy in their achievements and happiness. Her nurturing spirit and wise counsel left a lasting imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Blanche was preceded in death by her loving husband Charles David; her parents Richard and Edna Homsey; her in-laws Assad and Adel David; her brothers and sisters-in-law Joe and Josephine Homsey, Sam and Margaret Homsey, Benny and Dolores Homsey, Paul and Bernice Homsey, Harry and Yvonne Homsey; her sister and brother-in-law Imogene and Richard Naifeh; her sister-in-law Vicky Shadid and brother-in-law Kelly Shadid; nieces Connie Naifeh and Linda Shadid and nephew Sam Homsey. She is survived by daughter Kimberly Campbell and her husband Evan, daughter Charleigh Addison, grandchildren Dylan Campbell, Colin Addison, and Lauren Campbell and her many nieces and nephews.

Her family will forever cherish her unwavering love, strength, and the countless memories they shared. Blanche’s legacy of kindness, humility, and zest for life will continue to inspire all who knew her.

A celebration of Blanche’s life will begin with a visitation on Friday, January 24th, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Smith and Kernke Funeral Home, 14624 North May Avenue. Her funeral service will be held on January 25th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elijah Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, followed by lunch in the church hall and burial at Fairlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Flowers that Do Not Wither Fund at St. Elijah Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church.

Blanche Homsey David will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
